Yeah, lotta good these reviews did in aiding you with your current choice.koolkeys wrote:As for Dreamhost, I have my reasons for not going with them. I do know about them, but decided against them due to reviews from the right people and other issues I've seen. But thank you for the suggestions.
News about Sample Torrents. I'm PISSED off. And I'm sorry

This topic has freaked me out completely.
How can a basic php site that runs a few scripts take away some much cpu and ram, there are not being honest at all. Only thing that could happen was you getting an attack, but even if that happened they should re-open, re-test the site and see if it happens again.
You should really check your logs there koolkeys...
Funny thing is, if you install xampp into your computer, download the database and run your site locally, even if you are using the worst computer on the planet it won't take down all of the computers resources, even if you fake those hits.
Google says that your (cached) homepage is 15k . . .
Anyway, good luck, pm me if you need any help with the new site :>

Well, according to my latest info from them, I ran their RAM usage up to almost 50%. Are you serious? 50%? What a ridiculous load of crap.
I did a LOT of research to find the right host, and it saddens me that the host market is so pathetically flooded that even after all the tiring research, you still find a bad egg, even when it seems fresh.
Grrrrrrr.......

I don’t think they play fair koolkeys. It's true that nowadays the word torrent leads to some alienated behaviour. Just ask them to be honest and tell you straight away if they believe sampletorrents is illegal. Then you should give them any official papers you have that prove the site is clean.
PS: I don't mind seeing some advertising on sampletorrents (as somebody mentioned) if this is gonna help the site get going. I am not an everyday visitor but I am checking in every now and then.

It's odd that you mention ads. In an attempt to get the advertising ball rolling, I have offered free advertising to five different developers. Do you know how many have actually sent me banners? None. I'm talking FREE, no strings attached advertising, just as a service to help the developer, and we have almost 4,000 members.

Weird... Maybe the whole torrent thing scares them away. Just a thought anyway, no solid facts on this.
Did you tried to approach some of the smaller / single developer companies?

Very true.
And yes, I talked to small and large companies both.
I am in the middle of intense research once again right now for a new webhost. I remember doing this just a month ago, and was hoping that I wouldn't have to do this again. But I'm in an endless circle of reviews, support calls, etc.
In the middle of all of this, I have been on IM, PM, etc, brainstorming on how to make ST better when it returns.
I think people will like what we've started to come up with.

Actually, when offered free advertising, they ALL said that they would be interested, and a couple even told me that they would be sending a banner soon. Unfortunately, nobody ever did.

My idea is very smart !koolkeys wrote:Well, brainstorming has begun on how I'm going to do this. Please throw any ideas at me, even if they may seem stupid.
Convert Sampletorrents to Sampledonkey.
ED2K needs more brainpower from its users (>100 options and settings) but it is much more flexible, doesn't need any centralized "announce" scripts and the only difference from legal POV is that if some ED2K user wants to search for illegal content he has a search engine available in his client (torrent users need to use external torrent search engines / directories (torrentz.com etc.)).

Hmm, I wonder if Rarewares has been suspended for a similar reason.
The were using the same provider and the site has stopped working from the beginning of 2007.
The site contained legal software (collection of audio/video codecs), but had also problems with codecs sources being under copyright (don't remember what it was).

spam that site with google adds, you will be rich in no time
400,000 hits a day is very big, if they are telling the truth then your site is most popular! and defently worth enough to cover hosting,
PS, out the web hosting company & 400,000 of us can spam them daily with complaints about them stopping sample torrent
good luck koolkeys

Yes, hits are different. Those are not unique visitors. Hits include every time the torrent client asks for information from the tracker and database. Every picture that loads from the site registers a hit.
Still, that number is just not seeming right. But it's all gonna be behind us soon. We'll be back, and better then before.
