Hi Shamann,
the kind of use you describe is indeed a very different approach, and of course it's not less relevant than the "let's first prepare the sounds and then the music" approach.

With the right mindset, I agree that there could actually be many things that could be done in that area (one-shot manipulative performance sampling) to improve the state of the art.

Yes, definitely. Probably one of the reasons this other method hasn't been a focus for a lot of software sampler developers is that it is all together less predictable, since you essentially need to make guesses at what features would lend themselves well to immediate creative use. I think applications like Audiomulch, Bidule, Slifty, Liveslice or Live have gone some way towards this end, but, mostly in directions away from the layout of standard sampler devices. Maybe that's inevitable, but at least, it's nice to see that software sampler developers are starting to bring back old, useful features like recording and destructive editing.
