Hey! I have to say that you all should also test Guitar Suite. There's few amps and effects. If you really need 'mellow' sound I think you get it pretty easily for example this Rednef Twin -amp from Guitar suite. I recommend.

I'm demoing AT2... so far I have a quite broad smile on my face, but it's morning, I haven't been sleeping since yesterday morning, but it really sounds good for kicks. I have to try voice...
Cheers!

God bless the computers
. I think Einsturzende Neubauten would like AT2 very much. AT1 was cows piss in comparison.

I have AT2 and quite like it, although I'm less keen on the high gain settings (I like a lot of distortion). Generally my Boss GT8 pedal board (which is sort of like the Pod) sounds a lot better to me. Sometimes I'll use the GT8 and then add a bit extra with Amplitube if I still haven't quite got down the sound I'm after. Best of both worlds (got a good cross grade from AT1).

That doesn't sound good to my ears at all - I'm talking about the tone, not your playing.tomg wrote:FWIW I sold my PodXT and got AT2. Happy happy happy.![]()

Yup, give AT2 a try. So far, I think it's quite convincing, although it can sound almost as bad as Guitar Rig at some hi-gain settings, but some hi-to the hilt-gain settings sound very good. Presets don't mean an ant's poo to me, well almost.
The price is a bit steep at 400$/330E, but you get so much with this and it is cheaper than hardware. Very very useful. For me, Tonelab is still very intriguing as it's the "real" thing, and PODXT Pro too, also because they don't use any CPU and I'm sure they don't sound worse than AT2, too.
But remember, I shan't be using this for guitars too much
.
Cheers! off to play.
edit: After a few hours playing with AT2 and different plugins I still find Saro, JCM900 and Juicy77 very very useful though, they sound more "raw" and powerful. I even tried AmpegSVX - not my ballpark.

im not looking to copy them, i simply want a base i can work off because im a little confused at the moment (trying the demo)

Hey Dux,DuX wrote:What's your flavour Cap'n - heavy distortion or mellow distortion? I use as much distortion as I can and I think 99% of plugins just don't sound very good at these settings, except for Saro IMO I really like this little plug but unfortunately it's not very versatile. For heavy distortion, do you think PODXT Pro is worth it? or would you rather go with Amplitube2? I haven't heard Amplitube 2, yet, just 1 and I didn't like it much.
Cheers!
Sorry for the slow response! I'm kind of old school so I'm typically going for cleans or mild distortion. This is where AT2 excels, IMHO. If you're into hi-gain, heavy distorion you should probably get someone elses opinion. I know that some people like the hi-gain sounds on the PODxt, but I've never been able to get one that I really liked.
I was playing with the Revalver II demo the other day and felt like I got some nice "Marshall-ish" hi-gain sounds out of it. But I'm no expert on high gain. Fender Tweeds and Blackface amps for this old fart.

Yeah, I think the same about AT2. It excells at mellow "bluesy" distortion, but at hi-gain - not so much, here and there, lots to tweak. OTOH it is definitely better than GR2 in general
.

] I'm not considered exactly young, too, who says old-ish farts only like classics or blues? I'm still into industrial/EBM. Strange thing is that I've started making music more than 20 years ago with Synth-Pop stuff, then as time went by I got more and more into noisier and edgier stuff
. People usually start the other way round.
Who cares about age, the most important thing is to make music/art, express yourself. I have a few friends who make pure RnB, a few who make modern Jazz, a few who make Techno and Goa, Techno-Ambient, Rock etc. They're all cool guys [and girls] and it's nice to have them around and jam with them, isn;t it? Exchanging of ideas and mixing styles rules.
I have this friend who is a very special man. He's a well known painter and likes to play Blues, but what's strange is that he likes listening to and jamming to my experiments
. He's a riot... and yea 7 years older than me.
Cheers!

That's funny, because I was cycling through AT2 the other day, and I thought some of those "Metal" presets were pretty killer.
Ultimately, I still find it a little "fizzy" compared to POD.

That "fizzy" thing is what I don't like most of the time, but I can imagine some guitar sounds could benefit from it [like Nine Inch Nails?]. Try Saro or JCM900, all drive to full and you'll see what I mean, it sounds somehow alive and those high tones don't feel so irritating - "fizzy"
at least to my ears. ahhh subjectiveness... :hihih:
I suppose some people like fizzy, it may even be the part of their sound and I'm certain it can be "mojoful", too
. Looking in general, this amp/DSP thing has evolved so much last few years it's incredible... and the most important - so much fun.
I somehow believe your ears very much bduffy and your statements make me believe I'd like PODXT Pro, but I'll demo it somewhere first, of course.
Cheers!

Yeah, totally. I've tried Saro and JCM, and I'm just not one of the Guitarsuite fans. They sound good, I agree they're less fizzy, but not very useable for me.DuX wrote:That "fizzy" thing is what I don't like most of the time, but I can imagine some guitar sounds could benefit from it [like Nine Inch Nails?]. Actually, that fizzy thing reminds me: when I was in a band, the other guitar player went out and bought a 5150 stack. When I first heard it live, I was like, "Ew! Fizzy!" But then when we recorded the album, his guitar sounded perfect! Not sure what Van Halen did there, but it works like a charm on a record. (I wound up ditching all my amped tracks and using a SansAmp, circa 1995. I haven't used an amp since!)
