this would also prevent mixer strips from being a different length when the eq is showing.jens wrote:I don't think the mixer needs to be scalable - this probably would use a considerable amount of coding-time which could be used to fix stuff instead... - I think Jorgen should just add scroll-buttons for the bins, remove the vertical scrollbar and be done with it.

it's the same length until you add more than three inserts or sends

well, I really don't get you - that's exactly the problem I was mentioning all along which could simply be avoided by adding scroll-buttons to the bins instead of resizing the mixer - this has got nothing to do with the eq - it seems we're going in circles here - what is it that I'm not getting?

exactly, i'm agreeing with you. right now you can have ridiculously long mixer strips, but if you switch one to eq, that one gets shorter than the others and looks weird. i agree that fixed-size effects bins with scroll buttons would solve all of this.

Now I get you!
I thought you meant it as an argument for supporting your suggestion to make the mixer scalable...

From both end of the scale then it's not that great. First you open up this massive mixer (vertically) to make way for these EQ components so that it can't really do anything but take up your whole screen with empty space most of the time, and then when you do start getting really heavy on the inserts etc.. it becomes even bigger vertically and not really usable at all.
I like the idea of scrollable effect bins. If you control-mousewheel they should scroll. I don't know if you need a scrollbar on each bin though - that might be a bit painful, but you do need a way to indicate that there are more effects either above or below the ones that are visible.
I think we should also be able to configure when the effects go into scroll mode (within reason) so that those of us who like to only have room for two sends and two inserts most of the time can scroll when we need to find that rare 3rd insert etc. and in the meantime we get a smaller (vertically) mixer that we might be able to dock in the tab as something else?? Well maybe not - but it's an idea anyway.
I don't really like the way the EQ have dictated the minimum height of the mixer as for alot of your recording etc.. you're just staring at big empty bins taking up space - I still wish you could decide how many bands of EQ you're going to use (if at all) and use the EQ bins similarly to the insert FX bins (on a different page as it is now is fine).
I mean why do we NEED to have 4 bands of EQ loaded on every channel in the mixer?
Regards
Caleb

I'm with you, Caleb!
For me it's just annoying to have a very big mixer eating space in the monitor so plus been scrollable I think bins should also be foldable, having an indication that's something inside.
In most digital consoles, you select which function do you want to work with and you get a separate and dedicated window with all the necessary controls. This one could be floating or context sensitive.

being used to this for years from Sonar and thinking it works perfectly there I can't see why.Caleb wrote: I don't know if you need a scrollbar on each bin though - that might be a bit painful

Well - other than the fact that the Sonar mixer scares the hell out of me....
I probably wouldn't do it the scrollbar way myself, but that's just a personal opinion. I loaded up the mixer and had a look and you could fit a scrollbar in there if you needed to without necessarily increasing the width of the channels. The inserts only have a 0-100 label that could get pushed next to the on/off button dynamically and likewise the send amount could move to make room.

- collapsible FX/EQ panels? (open them when you need them)
- and even a double-decker mixer?

Wow I think DarkStar's idea is very good:
Without making it double-decker you get more room for the effects, more room for the eq (perhaps it will get modular later on) and you gain precision in the fader without holding a control_key.
