well by my side i didn't bother too much about money, i wouldn't have travelled in a sahelian country on that purpose, but it was really unfair for many natives that have participated to the project

to go back on topic, i just here underline how these IRs, if correctly used on an appropriate scale, blends very well and easily in an arrangement in a send/return loop, even involving a complex orchestration

The crucial point is to carefully choose a corresponding scale, this makes almost everything...

For your information

I'm on the way to have the equipment that shall allow me to continue my sound design work in surround mode

Nothing too expensive (Logitech X540 / Terratec DMX6FireUSB, for 5.1 diffusion)

...but enough for the creation of

- A similar library focused on 5.1 surround diffusion

I'm also investigating all effects that support 5.1, for sound design purpose
And the ones included my Logic Pro 9 seems to be an excellent base to begin the work when ai'll recieve the last hardware equipments

To be continued, then...

As a didactic example i've created this today :

A Pianoteq preset (Yamaha CP80 emulation) a bit detuned to match a major timbral aspects induced by the involved IR, (but independant of the focused scale !)

Exceptionally, the piano is performing as a HARMONIC COUNTERVOICE

it means that, while the IR is focused on the C Major scale, it performed only with the black keys (Csharp pentatonic..if i'm not mistaken !)

Notice that the tuned begins 100% wet and gradually change balance to a more equilbrate mix that shows clearly how both harmonies differs (The IR and the piano)

Notice also te few notes at the end of the song that matches the C scale that let you ear clearly how the IR behaves in both case differently...

Another example created today

Synful horn right out of the box + one IR loaded into Space Designer from Logic ("Load IR an init") ...and play :

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/IR/hornsolo.mp3

there is a slow and very discreet panning movement while the stereo input of Space Designer is reversed (sounds left when the source is panned right and so on), as well as a "two-walls" early reflection default preset from synful on the horn

that except there's no other treatment on that melodic line...

Have you also considered creating IR files with simple triads, dual-notes, or even 'single notes' as opposed to entire scales?

single notes yes ...and it's included in the whole package because it is what i've created at first, there is also one folder based on minor triads in the package, (norriscomb)

globally it works in the case quite as comb filter drones does : very effective to enhance a harmonic serie based, on the choosen tone of course, also way more versatile in atmospheres and timbres but without the typical warmth you can get with a delay line, (as i experienced long time ago with a Yahama SPX90 for instance...)

here a demo made with a "tone-related" IR :

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/IR/pianodrones.mp3

As you can see :

1) - work very well on the choosen tonality , seems that it would enhance any monotonal musics like modern indian tunes inspired by traditionnal raga

2) - But no (or almost no) modal transpositions allowed, that's the main reason i've focused my attention DIRECTLY on scales afterwards

... if it make sense though, i'll see how it works with ethnic scales in the future, that's a possibility

Here a new didactic example i want to share with you, applied on drums and all untuned percussion i general

Here a tablas loop, already posted earlier in this long thread (zero-g worldpack for garageband) in where the IR has been taylored as a reverse gate effect...
( and indeed it sounds very similar to these Early Ref. algorithm )
...except that the focused scale stays apparent

By comparison it behaves as if you would play through a piano with sustain pedal down, except that it is a specific diatonic scale that pass through
A way better example then, would be the sound you get wen you hit a diatonic harmonica in your hand
(...and of course, the "reverse gate" shape that has been appled to the IR inside Space Designer )

The interest that i underline again here is that, all in all, the addition of little touch like this one in a mix, without never beeing really obvious, can subtly reinfore the overall harmony of your production

I may admit though, that i didn't experiment the case in longer term...
(and consequently i probably still have a few new tricks and tips to discover and share !)
...but what has been done seems very promising and with decent versatilities on production purposes

I finally got around to downloading these. Thanks!

I've begun experimenting with using 'guitar sample' .wav files in IR-based guitar cabinet simulators.

It's fairly certain that your files will find application here.

Ciao Krakatau :)

Something about this topic I've been wondering about for a while but never tested:

did you try an "all notes on" IR as a kind of generic "harmonic enhancer" (or "fundamental enhancer?" ) for a track or submix?

Ciao quinto, ...long time no see !

What you say shines as an ambïguous description to me, i'm afraid...

as "all notes on" all scale-related IR are , so to say, "all notes on" enhancer ...related to their specific diatonic scales

relatively unsensible would have been to enhance chromatically all notes of an equal temperament

Technically that's what i did in most of the composed examples, the one called "brassoloinstr+Cmaj4" for instance...
( litterally a combination of different brass solo instrument from the Kontakt 2 library, playing and using and IR in C Major, from the 4rth folder)
...a single IR was placed in send/return loop, because that one blended wery well with the overall bright colours of brass
Of course , they where a few volume automations everywhere and individual equalization of each send signal before attacking the convolver, the composition beeing short i took the time to see how to get the best of this particular IR in the case

As "fondamental enhancer" it sounds like the example above ("pianodrones") in where the IR isf ocused on a specific tone

Concerning your work,... QUINTO

I think that Mirror1 could be a good candidat on that purpose

...if you need to deal with tonality transitions !

I'm actually under contract with Dbu for these impulses but if it interest you, maybe we could find together an agreementt on a little project ?

if it talks to you in any ways, let me know by PM, i'll be glad ...

on my myspace page i've just uploaded a more complex composition, (proposed in the music café in an earlier version), using many indian instruments and introduced with the same horn solo from above :

A Flying Carpet over himalaya (I,II,III)

Gosh, did I enjoy it ? I love this tune ! You have got to PM when this gets released. I want to buy the album.

...my very first essay with both iMovie and my Youtube account

:)

Of course, some of the "deep spaces" IRs involved here and there sparsely (...on lead vocals especially)

Enjoy...
