Congrats! I would be interested in what you think of it after you get a chance to try all the pianos.

And Roel, is TruePianos version 2 one of the included free updates within a year? Or is that a paid update?

Hi Brent,

It's included if released within a period of one year from the purchase. We're currently working on some other new things and we hope to provide that update to all customers (new Sapphire module among things). I can't promise this yet but from what it looks like now we'll delay the 'subscriptions' for early adopters (it's almost 1 year ago since the product launched) till the next (quite noticeable) update is released to avoid them feeling cheated.

Remember that v2.0 is basically just a number to reflect the implementation of a certain amount of things. We've made small jumps so far and are publicly only at v1.0.2 currently. Next up will probably be v1.3/v1.4, which is quite a large jump for our standards. When this will be exactly is hard to say, it completely depends on progress and what ends up to be included of the things we are working on at the moment. In short, things are done when they are done.

That's cool! I just didn't know for sure. TP is great already, so it's not like I didn't get my money's worth. But if V2 comes in my one year, then great!

And if not, can I just purchase another year of updates when that happens? Or how does that happen(sorry, my memory escapes me on how it works)?

Yes that's what the 1 year subscription is for. The price for that will probably be decided upon in the next month. We'll most likely inform all customers on this as soon as the exact details are known.

that'd be fantastic! I knew I made the right choice with TruePianos.

i almost bought truepianos but i couldnt find any tuning options, whereas PianoTeq has support for scala files.

if youre only interested in a straight 12-tet piano that feels nice to play then i guess truepianos is where its at but for more creative options PianoTeq is amazing, being able to change the tuning, the harmonics, the size etc.. gives you a lot more than just a straight piano.

i love playing pianoteq with a JI tuning through altiverb.

Glad to hear there is some support for Pianoteq on these boards, I thought everyone was just rabbiting Truepianos and nothing else.

Honestly PT would appeal to the sound designer in me but for now as it has happened TP has appealed to my bank balance.

I'm using Pianoteq both live & for studio - and it's the most flexibel (and most comfortable) tool to wirk with !

I think you made the right choice. TP is a phenomenal product and the price is great that you're getting it for. I tried them both and for me PianoTeq was no good. TP blew me away. I'm extremely picky about pianos. To each their own. If you like the sounds and feel of TP then you got a great deal, end of story.

I do like some of the experimental aspects of PianoTeq and if it were a LOT cheaper I would get it for no other reason than to make non-real-world piano-like sounds using the randomize feature. But TP is the only digital Piano I have ever played that gives me the feeling that I am sitting in front of the soundboard of a real piano. Its something about the way the notes resonate with each other in the algorithms. Particularly you will notice how nice it sounds when using a sustain pedal and hitting some big spread out chords with 9ths and 13ths and stuff like that while sustaining a bass note. REALLY REALLY fun piano to play.

I'd like to echo a lot of what Dewdman42 said...

I too went with TP because of the price (especially with the Xmas discount

) and have not been disappointed. I've got plenty of sampled pianos, and have to say that Art Vista Grand is probably my favorite sounding grand, but TP is such a joy to play that it is now my practice and writing/scratch-tracking piano sample. I can noodle around with it for hours at low latency (still on a single proc system), and not have to worry about lockups or note-stealing -- it's just a real fluid feeling, like I'm playing an acoustic piano.

Can the piano sound be improved? Of course, and no doubt it will be -- more icing on the cake down the road -- still for what it gives me now, in terms of value and productivity, IMO it's hard to beat.

Yes, please. I wouldn't say that the TruePianos sound is bad. Of course not, but it could have a bit more liveliness and more upper harmonics to represent the string character of a real piano. How about one 'high definition' module, maybe 100 - 150 MByte in size to get the best out of the technique used in TP?

I can say exactly the same - but for PIANOTEQ

anyway - different tastes by different people.. and that's good how it is !
