sure- Alchemy looks and sounds like it will be an amazing synth- but it's sound is no more amazing than other Camel products or something like Melohman or Zebra or Absynth etc- all of these are great within the current milieu of softsynths
BUT Omnisphere- the psychoacoustic core library combined with the steam engine makes sound of qualtiy I have only ever heard in big budget hollywood Foley studios! there isn't anything out there with that density and depth of sound or smoothness of timbral modulation- you cannot really compare them

I am sure your conculusion comes from a close side by side comparision and deep testing of the two unreleased products.setAI wrote:COME ON!

Nah, such is the power of the pyschoacoustic engine that one does not even need to listen to it to be convinced of its superiority.AKJ wrote:I am sure your conculusion comes from a close side by side comparision and deep testing of the two unreleased products.setAI wrote:COME ON!

Actually there isn't so much of a debate since Sales and Feedback will speak for itself within time. Few people spend their dime on something they're uninterested in. However, the guys in Mordor will of course be alarmed about a burning piano.
I agree with all sentiments regarding the quality of sound in favor of the Omni. It has some of the most impressing tones I have yet heard to come out of a VSTi. The contender here doesn't impress me at all soundwise and therefore will likely have no business from me. Their spec is fine but the sounds and tonality I have heard isn't appealing. If they had burned a DX7 maybe they could have offered some interesting timbres...we'll see if the demo section offers anything I'd like to hear futurewise.
The current stats on the poll will not reflect the actual sales IMO, Omni will outnumber most VSTi sales eventually, of that I feel pretty certain.
So let's hype this thing.

So you've got a copy already then? Either that or you're psychic/you're just going off the sounds on those videos/you've been sucked in by the omnisphere pscyhoacoustohype marketing engine.Casar1973 wrote:It has some of the most impressing tones I have yet heard to come out of a VSTi.
Yes, the sales will exactly be in line with the pole, of that I feel pretty certain. In fact, you can't get any more certain than a poll conducted on an internet forum. The current stats on the poll will not reflect the actual sales IMO, Omni will outnumber most VSTi sales eventually, of that I feel pretty certain.
No need. It's already been done, I think. So let's hype this thing.

I'm sure you would but I don't live in Mordor, I live in The Shire.whyterabbyt wrote:I'd love to hear more about your in-depth comparison of these two unreleased synths too. details, please...Casar1973 wrote:Actually there isn't so much of a debate since Sales and Feedback will speak for itself within time. We have a great sense of intuition, rationale, rhyme and reason over here.

that's nice. perhaps your physician might want to lower your dosage, though.Casar1973 wrote: I'm sure you would but I don't live in Mordor, I live in The Shire.
not seeing much evidence of any of them, to be honest. except for the attempt to rhyme 'shire' with 'here', but the meter in the second line sucked, so epic fail there, too.We have a great sense of intuition, rationale, rhyme and reason over here.

I don't subscribe to the Words Of The Orch but the extended demo on youtube and feedback from trustworthy and reliable sources was compelling enough. Puns doesn't go down well in Mordor, I know. I had the same inroad and vibe to UAD some months before I got my hands on it and it even was released so yes, I suppose I am psychic. Say hi to Sauron!hakey wrote:So you've got a copy already then? ah, well, there we go. youtube video and hearsay pretty much define the best listening environments for in-depth comparison of two of the most massively complex unreleased synths around.Casar1973 wrote:the extended demo on youtube and feedback from trustworthy and reliable sources was compelling enough

Your comments (directed to me for some reason) mainly echo for yourself, so enjoy them. Another few lines going down the fetid chute marked "waste".whyterabbyt wrote:ah, well, there we go. youtube video and hearsay pretty much define the best listening environments for in-depth comparison of two of the most massively complex unreleased synths around.Casar1973 wrote:the extended demo on youtube and feedback from trustworthy and reliable sources was compelling enough

Could you try saying that in coherent English please?Casar1973 wrote: Your comments (directed to me for some reason) mainly echo for yourself, so enjoy them. Another few lines going down the fetid chute marked "waste".
And do so without rambling on about hobbits and orcs, please.
Again? When did you ask the first time? And what possible relevance does it have? What's your social security number?Again, who are you?

Interesting poll result so far
I suspect the reason why Alchemy is preferred by more KVRians (so far on the poll) is maybe due to the following...
1.Price
2.Smaller library (less space needed for a potentially similar sonic result compared to Omni..) I think they will both sound great though.
3.Simpler copy protection process (Camel's Key file vs Spectrasonics challenge and response)
And I suspect a very big deal for many...
4.Camel Audio offer a demo or will offer a demo.
5.Sample import.
I would love to see a sample import option for Omni. Maybe in a 1.1 or 1.5 update. A demo I think is very unlikely. I am not sure, but I don't think any Spectrasonics plugs have had demos. Maybe due to the library size of their products although I think some people (I would anyway) be happy to download a small subset of sounds to demo their product if need be.
I think Eric recently said they are very unlikely to have MP3 demos of Omni (as Camel have provided), as he thought they might negatively affect the perception of Omni. Videos will only be available to registered Omnisphere users which is an incentive to get Omni but not one I agree with. I would really like to see more in depth videos of it without necessarily having to own it first. Camel Audio will offer tutorial videos of Alchemy ( I have not seen a requirement to register Alchemy first).
I think some other ways of seeing what Omni will do will be offered at some point though IIRC.
Different approaches by Camel and Spectrasonics.
Camel have hinted at an October release...but of course a spec for spec comparison will be easy to get hold of on Monday.

Maybe I would give it an effort for somebody I'd appreciate, so no, sorry, can't do that. I think our english classes in Sweden still floors yours in swedish. Weird, huh? At least I'm not the only one with a second rate command of english in this particular dialogue.
That was hopefully the last line concerning off-topic oddities.
Apart from this slightly muddy sidetrack, I still remain optimistic that the Omnisphere will deliver on the promises. It sounds just fine to me.
