I went to sleep within seconds of that other post. The mega post was done this morning before I left to visit Steinberg. Now we're just chillin' in the hotel and I think I might even take a little nap here... so freakin' tired. I haven't had much sleep in really the past 3 weeks because I am also working on an album some musicians and engineers I admire in the midst of all this. A little insane. But, you'll see how it all works together when we're done and it will make sense. One has to make sacrifices sometimes to do what you really love so... I have no complaints. Give me a couch and I'm good. So... gnight again! Haha.

The press release is going out tonight but you can also read a new article about it on www.studioprofiles.com The "Infinite Player" plug-in.

Post

Or here just read the article with this direct link. It explains it pretty well: http://www.studioprofiles.com/News/News ... tions.html

Fully expandable how you want it to be, whatever you may like, whichever drummer, grooves or kits or both, stereo or multi-track, add as you go for whatever you can afford... you like?

This looks absolutely amazing! How does this product compare and contrast to Ocean Way Drums Platinum Edition? Can the two products work together or interface somehow, or are they completely separate systems?

Well, first it's completely different material of course. That's always the main difference between any of these drum products today. Also, these aren't in 96k like OWD Platinum (although some of the original sessions are 96k too but... maybe at a later date perhaps).

A more direct comparison would be Ocean Way Drums Gold. But, again, completely different sounds. Ocean Way Drums is the ultimate in fidelity. I've not heard anything more crisp and pure sounding. It has a certain "Ocean Way" sound which has certainly been something that has appealed to the many artists who constantly have that studio booked. Radiohead, Beck, Paul McCartney, Clapton, Jon Brion, JJP, Rush, Chili Peppers... Plus, you have Allen Side's personal selection of mics and it's just CHOICE all around. It just won another award that will be announced next month, a very prestigious one but I'm not allowed to talk about it yet.

But the Infinite Player and the Studio ProFiles expansion/bundles like Drum Masters or the Style Sessions focus more on specific flavors of drums that are unique to that artist or a genre. For instance, Ocean Way Drums doesn't have a "Ringo" style Ludwig Downbeat kit (or grooves) but Studio ProFiles does. It doesn't have Jerry Marotta's unusual kit that he's used with Peter Gabriel (and only he sounds like these drums) but Studio ProFiles does... and this is the case for the Bonham-style kits, the Collins-style kits, Danny Gottlieb's cymbals... down the line each time we do one of these we capture something DESIRABLE but different than the next... otherwise what would be the point? So, mainly character differences. Functionally very similar otherwise in that the both use the Kontakt Engine except that Studio ProFiles multi-track kits are scripted a little differently than the Ocean Way Drum kits.

On OWD you have each instrument with a full submix and then "busses" at the individual output stage (not to mention preset mixes from Allen Sides and Steven Miller in the instruments to choose from). On Studio ProFiles Multi-track Drum Kits you have less mixing on the instrument level (you have more tweaking and offsetting there) and you have discrete mic mixing at the output mixer (more like BFD I guess). The reason for that though is so they line up with your multi-track loops that we also have for this to go between the kit and audio grooves but still be able to mix the mics (read the article it is full of info about this!). So, you can punch directly to the discrete audio tracks in your DAW. A different approach but one that I think a lot of people will like.

Bottom line is, both products are great to have and it is designed for serious sample users to be able to have both in their set up if they want the range of sounds we've been trying to get for them... what a set up that is! It's my personal production set up too and I keep trying to get more of the sounds I'd want from studios, engineers, gear and musicians around the world.

Technically, while OWD and Infinite Player are two separate Kontakt Players, they do reside right next to each other in one interface so you can make custom kits between the kit elements if you have both. The kits are multis in Studio ProFiles so you can look at it like expanding your kit pieces to whatever else you have whether it is OWD or other Studio ProFile titles. It's VERY flexible.

Cool huh?

infinite player looks cool. Perfect for drum junkies.

I see the esoundz page has a clock counting down until Infinite player, but it says "limited time promotion, buy before the end" clicking on the link goes to halloween sale?

Is this intended to be for infinite player?

No, that was a half baked idea of the web master who is counter-happy I think. ;) Although, what it was supposed to be probably (I am not at the office to supervise) is a little short countdown until the product is available to purchase. It was supposed to be up for pre-order today for the boxed versions. However, the downloadable "build as you go/ala carte" system should be available on www.downloadablesoundz.com by the end of the day tomorrow or sooner hopefully.

The boxed products are Drum Masters Silver, Gold & Platinum. I'll tell you about them. Basically, Silver is stereo grooves and kits only. Gold has stereo and multi-track. But both Silver and Gold give you the kits (most of them but not all) and about 150 grooves from each. So, the Platinum Edition (which is over 55 gigabytes) includes ALL of it. All of the kits including extras like two kits we did in the style of Phil Collins. Ironically I am doing more of that now with Genesis' producers for a future release. However, the Gretsch and Premier kits in the Platinum Drum Masters were done at Kevin Gilbert's old studio called "Lawnmower". Now, here's the interesting thing about that. Lawnmower's live room was measured to be just like the live room at The Townhouse (where Gabriel's third record and In the Air Tonight was recorded). Sadly, that studio is no longer around and even when it was around Hugh told us that they had turned that beautiful live room into a control room years ago anyway! Studio history just GONE. It happens and that's another reason why we like to sample in them while they're still around because a BIG part of the sound is the room!

So, The Farm has a stone room but it is smaller than the Townhouse room... however it sounds amazing too. A little tighter. But Lawnmower's live room was larger and brick. Great sounding room. A lot of nice records made there. Anyway, long story short... we had Ross Garfield the Drum Doctor come down there with some great Collins-style Gretsch and Premier kits even with some Rotos and Timbales and we sampled that along with the snare used on Nirvana's Nevermind album (and Offspring)... all sorts of stuff. Those extras are on the Platinum Edition.

Now, the MSRP prices are $299, $599 and $995. (for what they include those are really good bundle prices). The one thing that I think you'll like, especially Jim - the Collins-midi-guy, is that most of the kits in Platinum are still just available ala carte if you want them. So it isn't like you HAVE to spend the grand to get them. Don't worry. We're not doing that. It's more like this. If each individual ala carte product was on average about $40. and you had over 50 ala carte products that made up platinum then at $995 that's actually half price (averaging $20 per part) since 50 X 40 would be $2,000. So, basically if you found yourself downloading away one at a time and decided "wait, this is ALL good. I'd like to get a deal for getting ALL of it" well, that's what this is for.

Oh then there's also a Gold "Kits Only" pack we'll do as a limited thing too if you want, but that'd be download only I think and $399.

Looks good Squids :)

Could you clarify a few things?

a) I see that some are labelled "ST" and some "MT" - That looks like they indicate stereo and multi-track? Or...?

b) Will all these packs be loadable into Kontakt 2 and 3? I can't think of a reason why not.

c) How do the packs compare with the individual ProFiles? For example, take Danny Gottlieb:
- there are 3 "ST" packs in the Infinite range,
- in the Studio Profile there are 842 stereo loops,in Tom Grooves, Brush Grooves and 9 tempo ranges,

d) if the underlying sounds are the same, would you consider offering the Kontakt patches are separate products?

TIA

a) I see that some are labelled "ST" and some "MT" - That looks like they indicate stereo and multi-track? Or...?

ST= Stereo (Premixed)
MT= Multi-track (Discrete mic channel mixing)

Yes, but you have to register one Infinite Player first for them to work because of the license. But just one for all of that content and an INFINITE amount of additional content that is being produced for this one $99 downloadable plug-in. I forgot to mention that part! ;)

c) How do the packs compare with the individual ProFiles? For example, take Danny Gottlieb:

The stereo grooves are the same as the individual profiles in Rex, Apple Loops and Wave, just split up into sub sets. The MT Multi-tracks of course offer the mixing capability and there might be some extra material... in fact there could be some material differences between the packs but it should be the same for the most part between the packs. The Danny Gottlieb sessions were great for cymbals because we used such a huge variety of them. But that's the only one that doesn't have direct tom mics. It still sounds good because of the great overheads and very jazz sounding. But we're doing additional sessions with him at some point that will have direct tom mics and that is something we almost ALWAYS do for Studio ProFiles titles... all the other drum kits have them. But, that DG kit (a DW Pacifica) sounds fantastic anyway.

d) if the underlying sounds are the same, would you consider offering the Kontakt patches are separate products?

Not sure what you mean. These are all separate products you'll be able to buy ala carte from www.downloadablesoundz.com or as bundles in Drum Masters Silver, Gold or Platinum for a "price break" on quantity essentially. They will work in Kontakt but you just have to have one Infinite Player plug-in that is downloadable for $99 and you get a choice of a few sets to go with it (that are worth the $99 already - so that kind of makes the plug-in free if you think about it that way). When you buy the Infinite Player you can alternatively choose to download a deluxe piano or acoustic guitar as well since it is designed to play not only drums but pretty much every instrument you can think of that Sonic Reality has made (including new "Kapsules" which are the Sonik Capsules old and new ones that can be read by Kontakt and Infinite Player only as opposed to multi-format).

One cool thing is that this will be available TODAY on www.downloadablesoundz.com and www.esoundz.com so, from the time we're announcing it to the time you can have it is pretty FAST! (if you discount the fact that we announced the Infinite Instrument "series" a good 4 or 5 years ago... reality check! We're really "late" in the sense that we've been working on this for OVER 5 years and thought we'd have it out much sooner but... to do it right it takes time what can I say? We do sample a lot of things.)

I'm sampling right now with engineer/producer Nick Davis in fact. He's getting tom sounds and I'm just doing some emailing here... I might go one an obscure streaming video chat room though if you guys want to see this in real time...

Squids (on tour?) wrote:Not sure what you mean.
Oops, I meant offering other new products containing only the Kontakt patches (.nkm?, .nki?) - no sounds or RX2 files. These patches would be able to reference the Studio Profile RX2 files. So someone who has already bought an Artist Studio Profile could just get the appropriate .nki files [but will still need one Infinite Player installed anyway so that the licence works].

I hope that makes more sense.

So the esoundz countdown timer for the Infinite Instruments product hit 0 at 5:00pm EDT.....then nothing.

I just checked back and now it says 2+ days to go!?

Why on earth have a countdown timer to get folks pumped up and then reset it for two more days?

Technical difficulties or something? :(
