What a rip off! I haven't been using the automap feature because it dont play nice with logic at all. I bought an sl cos i was led to believe that with 'automap' i'd be able to control all my plugins and logic instruments without any hassle. No chance. Now they want more money...for what!? Trying to make the software do what it should have done in the first place. How can anyone justify this...and whats more why would anybody waste there time trying to unless they have a vested interest?
Yes $30 is F all...but they don't deserve it...they should be apologizing for taking so long to add basic features that should be included as standard, not asking for more money.
I will not be buying any novation products in the future because of this experience.
... I'm pretty sure that it was flagged up by Novation that you couldn't access Logic's internal instruments and effects via Automap... and that is more to do with Apple than Novation.
V3 does stuff that was never promised, I don't see why there's this whining mentality about this. Either update to V3, fork out the $30 if you really need the extra features or move on, Personally, I played around with V3 last night, got pissed off with the pulsing Logic output field and decided it wasn't worth keeping in plugged in just for the Automapped Logic surface. Am liking Kore2 a lot more.

Again...what is new with the standard version of A3 that wasn't in A2? The Novation site says this:
In all, I'd have much rather have this upgrade have focused less on new features and more on the Automap platforms it works on -- to smaller programs like Numerology, mapping the Reason Thor step seq, etc.
Is that seriously all that's new with the standard version? A start-up screen? I'm not trying to complain, bc the functionality of A2 was pretty good in my book. And I'd certainly like the drag-and-drop and XY Pad control of Pro. But Standard just doesn't seem worth it.# HUI - HUI control is now fully implemented within Automap, allowing control over all HUI compatible DAW's including Logic, Pro Tools and Digital Performer. This includes control over volume, pan, aux sends, track arm, mute/solo and more...
# Start-up Screen - A new start-up screen now makes managing your plug-ins and setting up your DAW even easier. It also gives you one-click access to online support, tutorials and the latest updates.
In all, I'd have much rather have this upgrade have focused less on new features and more on the Automap platforms it works on -- to smaller programs like Numerology, mapping the Reason Thor step seq, etc.

In logic i have to manually restart the hui control by going into control surfaces and changing the input or output to automap hui, everytime i start logic
I also think this is bullshit, it should be in the free version:
Autoview Mode
Optional Autoview mode means that the GUI only becomes visible when a controller is touched, then it disappears again allowing you to get back to your DAW.

I was not whining...i was voicing my opinion over a product which is nice in theory but in practice is a pile of pants. Releasing this new software is pure marketing just to get more people to buy into it. when in fact half the people i speak to who already have it don't bother to use automap cos it's rubbish...so they should address this issue b4 trying to get new customers with useless updates that they have the cheek to charge for.
Also...just for one example this link misleadingly shows a lady saying all logic instruments are automatically mapped out on the sl!
...there are many more misleading examples of this.
I just want to highlight that i think that anyone thinking of buying one of these controllers should think again if they use logic cos in my experience its a waste of time and it is much quicker and more efficient to map things out yourself with midi learn.

I think someone should rename this topict to "Automap 2 and 3 Logic problems and haters"...
As it is A3 (and A2 for that matter) works brilliantly on my Mac using Cubase, Live and Reason - well worth $29.

So, you think that somehow they totally fabricated all of this? Did they make the UI change with an animation program to trick you?thespecialistmonkey wrote:Also...just for one example this link misleadingly shows a lady saying all logic instruments are automatically mapped out on the sl!
I think you need to contact their support. I'm not saying you don't have valid gripes with the product, but I don't thing this thread is the right place to vent. What good can it do? I had issues with Live when it went from v6 to v7, but it wasn't the fault of the Automap software. Someone at Ableton was able to point me on the right path to fix it and it's worked fine ever since.
v2 isn't perfect and I must admit that I've been lax getting it to work correctly with a lot of my plug ins, but that's my fault. I need to spend some time digging into manuals and looking for a tutorial.

To begin with A3 standard is FREE download (so what do you have to loose?) and updates the firmware of your controller - always a good thingNaive Teen Idol wrote:...and still, no one saying anything about what the standard upgrade means to A2 users.

What you have to lose is that it doesn't make your system more stable, but less. As a rule, I don't do these kinds of upgrades unless I feel pretty certain the new features are worth the hassle of potentially undermining the stability of the system.Leslie wrote:To begin with A3 standard is FREE download (so what do you have to loose?) and updates the firmware of your controller - always a good thingNaive Teen Idol wrote:...and still, no one saying anything about what the standard upgrade means to A2 users.

I'm not questioning the benefits of Pro. But are the HUI and start-up screen pretty much all that's new with standard? Or are there other functionality things I'm not noticing here?

... and how exactly did You came up with that idea without installing A3 in the first place...
Naive Teen Idol, you are full of negativity and I'm not quite sure for what reason exactly - your negative attitude and comments bring the bad vibe to this topic. Cheer-up dude, be positive and happy

No, I'm not negative!
Seriously, I'm all for installing A3 -- and I'm not grousing about the Pro-Standard differentiation. But I just don't really get what the benefits are is all and am a little hesitant to install something that could muck up a pretty good system for no real added functionality.
Again, if more Thor controls in Reason are automapped or if I can automap things like Numerology, different story. But that's all I meant.

OMG the arrogance....zerocrossing wrote:dj ray wrote:Again, it's only $30. Is that a lot? Really? Are there are a lot of 13 year school kids with no allowance trying to get their hands on it?![]()
As far as the ideological argument on Novation ripping people off, how is this any different than an upgrade to your favorite DAW? Also, would you rather Novation roll out new controllers with Automap 3, rendering the older hardware obsolete?$30 guys!

It's always funny to me when I hear the normal "rip off" chatter when a company actually tries to get some money for work they've done. Maybe you should buy a Soviet based Automap application. Oh wait, there isn't any because there's no motivation to make one.
So, for the price of dinner for 2 at Denny's you are telling me it's horribly unfair for Novation to ask for a little cash for some extra programming magic? Maybe you should get a paper route and start saving up.
To the poster who thinks they should have purchased another controller, Novation makes the best and you have it.
And what does the soviet union have to do with this... you clearly feel superiour, and want people to know that ( wonder where you are from... but your reaction seems a bit USA stylie).
Very agressive indeed. Not cool.
Some people think it is a rip off, some ppl do not/. Respect others opinion so they will do the same with yours.Please.
I think it is not much , the $30, but i think this feature should have been in the original software already so i am disappointed i have to pay for it since i got the controller recently. For a more spectacular upgrade i would maybe feel different about it.
Also, for some ppl $30 is a few days of food in the fridge, not all people are as fortunate as us both. Reapect that too, and maybe you will not seem like such an a**. And who the f*** is Denny. 2 people can eat for 30 bucks that doesn't sound like something anyone with good taste would go to....( see? arrogance is sooo easy, but it's bad mkay?)
To me you seem a bit like a novation employee tbh.
