I'd imagine to make it look cool. Different sized eye sockets is apparently the next thing in cool. Stick a stud through one eyeball and you're just ice cool.
I do wish they wouldn't use eejit-speak in the blurb though. When they said it makes "sick" basses, I assume that they can't quite get the coding right because all the basses are broken. It's a stupid use of the word for stupid people and it doesn't make the synth any more attractive by trying to be cool. If it sounds as good as they say it does, they don't need to call it sick, or vomit-ridden, or bubonic or any other nonsense adjective [/pedant mode off]

hakey - they are context-sensitive visualizers - so osc/env/LFO shapes, filter response etc. They are very responsive and fun to use.
kritikon - fair cop guv'nor.. we were just trying to have a bit of fun with it. Press releases are normally so boring

XT has always had public betas and that's where the bitching STARTS. From there on, it snowballs into the slamming of each offical release.afreshcupofjoe wrote:What does the XT2 drama have to do with BETA testing? People didn't really start bitching until the official release came out and it was a buggy pile of crap that didn't have half of the features that were promised.

So... what's wrong with a semi-public beta... say for example a company does not offer the product as officially released to the public, but if someone wants the product bad enough they can pay for and receive the product fully knowing that it's currently still in BETA form and be part of the beta team for the given product.
I'm just saying that if given the option I would personally buy this product now knowing that there are still bugs to be worked out for the main release. I would also be happy to report any bugs to the devs if encountered on my systems.

All the synths are built to be abused. If you do something that is unreasonable to run in real time and still anti alias, eg +30 dB of drive, you can render it and get clear results. There is a selectable realtime and offline oversample amount.kritikon wrote:...I would have been fooled into thinking it was some old modulars being abused. It's the abuse that gives the character in any synth, so I'll hold judgement till I actually have a proper demo to abuse, but it really does sound like some of the claims might be fair.
There is no ringmod on Strobe, that's saved for cypher, but even then it's not a proper analog modeled ring mod, it's just a = b*c, which sounds different to analog ring modulation. Actually strobe has more of an SH-101 style feel in it's filter, Orca was actually based on the Jupiter-6 SVF filter. The filter modes of Strobe ( http://www.vellocet.com/dsp/CascadedFilterResponses/ ) and other features will hopefully make it a work horse synth. Here are some more geeky audio demos:kritikon wrote:...The first synth demos didn't set me alight, but I'll assume it's based on Orca and is a fully developed version of it - Orca certainly had me convinced they were onto something, so I'd imagine I'll like it, and from the screenshot, it looks like it has all the main functions (and more) that I'd want gathered from all the better old analogue monos (didn't notice a ringmod or ringmod oscillator, but maybe I didn't look closely enough...). Again, need to get my hands on it, because the demos didn't abuse it at all IMO.
http://www.vellocet.com/dsp/strobe/ , in particular check out http://www.vellocet.com/dsp/strobe/VideoGame.mp3 , and http://www.vellocet.com/dsp/strobe/Stro ... 070129.mp3 .
Deadmau5 used Strobe on Faxing Berlin and Not Exactly and a few other of his best selling tracks, so please don't discount it completely before you've used it!
Some people will be buying the Synth Squad purely for Amber the string synth. It's the first truley paraphonic divide down oscillator synth on the market and has a great sounding formant filter and chorus unit. You also get to use the formant filter and chorus on all the synths as an effect in Fusor. www.vellocet.com/dsp/amberkritikon wrote:As for the string machine thing - doesn't really interest me. Can do that with any number of other synths IMO. Electronic strings are strings, but if I have to buy it as part of the bundle then so be it...it can languish in some folder or other. I never understood the salivating over analogue string synths - never impressed me then and don't now.
Cypher is definitely my favourite. It's the one I built for me to use. You can through zero freq mod and audio rate wave mod, it has a continuous osc from tri to saw to pulse like the voyager, and it also has sample and hold between the osc, so you can get gritty digital steps on your analog waveforms, but it's all haromonic. The exact beat detune means you can synth the beating to bpm, and you can adjust the start phase reset so you can position the beats precisely. Then you get to the waveshapers and twin filterskritikon wrote:But Cypher...that really sounds like a breakthrough in VSTi to me. I suspect I'll buy it on its strength alone. I hope it's all as stable as I think it'll be, and well done FXpansion for taking their time to develop some nice synths (hopefully). I can't abide the silliness we get places like here - "have to have it now", "I want feature X and Y" (before even playing it or buying it) - You get quality by craftsmanship, and you can't code that stuff overnight. Quality is worth waiting for. There are only a small handful of devs that I seriously await goodies from. FXpansion are one of them. I might even buy undemoed - I certainly wouldn't consider that from the likes of Arturia etc.
Someone else mentioned the GMedia SOB - yeah - that's the other one.![]()

I've been a licensed XT user since version 1.x and I can confidently say that this is completely untrue. People don't bitch because of the public betas. They bitch because XT2 is an utter pile of crap. Before XT2 it was thriving user community. Sure, there was the occasional complaint and a healthy amount of constructive criticism, but the overwhelming majority of comments back then were heaps of praise and excitement over the release of every new beta.

i've been dying for strobe ever since Orca - which i love the sound of .... its going to be amazing i know that for a FACT.
the screenshots look great, i like the simplicity
and to have the amber string synth as well i can barely contain my excitement .... oops, couldn't contain it
'spring' release, yes?

I don't like them that much. Its likely just to be the context they're used in.djsubject wrote:those demos on the site i find quite impressive!!
However, Andy's post is rather exciting and i do like a lot of the ideas behind it.

How integrated are the synths in Fuser? Is it like Korg Legacy Cell, where its basically 3 synths layered + FX? Or can the synths modulate each other in a more modular fashion? ie. using the output of one synth to Filter FM another. etc.

Thanks for the 'geeky audio demos' andy_cytomic. It really does sound like these were worth waiting for. Very impressive. (I'm so glad that there's people who still think that analogue emulation is an avenue worth exploring.)
Go on then I'll have one. How much?

Of course it is because so few have done it properly.hakey wrote:I'm so glad that there's people who still think that analogue emulation is an avenue worth exploring.

So is the copy protection going to be challenge / response or serial based like Guru?
