Without EQ, we'd have no way to put sounds in their place. There'd be chaos and the planets would collide!

In thinking about this further, I've decided that in a world without EQ, I would invent equalization and filtering and patent those concepts. You'd all be singing my praises while paying me dearly for my coveted parametric/graphic EQ's and filters!

I'd be rich!

Seriously though the question is interesting but all the ideas mentioned here are forms of equalizing whether it be by mic placement, arrangement, mixing, baffles, it's all a way to balance or equalize the frequencies. The only way we could not have any form of EQ is if frequency didn't exist. By definition sound cannot exist without frequency even if it's only one frequency. So the answer to the original question is nothing because it wouldn't matter.

Your dead right - comb filtering is the most drastic (natural) EQ i have ever heard (when mic'ing something up to taste)

Plus each one of our ear's are "pre-EQ'd" so to speak also...and each one of us hears things differently even if like the same thing. The human body is too complex for me to try and explain as i don't know enough about it...but i think you will get what im trying to say (i hope)

Monster DC offsets for sure would destroy mixing headroom and yeah build that up over say 24-tracks then summ the lot = hell! - good point hseiken, and anything going A/D and D/A already has a very steep LPF built-in also.

The debate would/could be endless i guess

I'd concentrate on some better separated arrangements or use high/low/bandpass filters, as some much more sensible people in this thread have previously said.

but from my experience, every voice can be turned to the better, by eq-íng.

every source has it's imperfections, that can be corrected til a certain
degree!

yes but generally with electric and electronic instruments you "get the sound right" by using EQ, just not the host EQ. TBH I'd rather have this discussion about compression than EQ
