Waves models have clearly different attack and release times compared to the competitors...bishop666 wrote:Here is a thread comparing 1176s software (and hardware soon):

I disagree on the 670. That's a very complex model from what I gather. It does weird things to the frequency response, creates lots of harmonics, has crosstalk...it's really just a beast. The quality of the Fairchild, is what makes their 1176 and LA2A so dull in comparison. I wonder if the same people even worked on them. That said, the two of them sound very good, but they're certainly on the clean side. Updated versions would certainly be welcome though.K-Slash wrote: Compression = great!

Even their 670 would benefit of some more "deeper/complex" modeling.
I never said anything along the lines of "maxxxter please show off your work", I simply implied that it would be intresting to have a chance to listen to at least one example where yourself (and anybody else for that matter) whom is not fond of using something so strongly enabling myself (and once again other people) to hear what you are saying. If you think that is a personal attackmaxxxter wrote:My music is completely irrelevant for this discussion and none of your business. We've been discussing the 1176-type compressors here and why we like them or not.Dean Aka Nekro wrote: Yap, Yap, Yap. The reason I had to mention some details on how I do things was just to make a point, not to show off my work.
I never once said any such thing. The bowing down part it did make me chuckle though man. Also where did I claim you have absolutely zero experience with a 'real' 1176 and/or variants on the original? I did not, Why so defensivemaxxxter wrote:geroyannis, mandolarian - Thank You!

In this day and age when there are so many different technologies available - not everyone HAS TO like a very specific FET design and bow to it in submission. Thank You.
And to make a further point, I HAVE heard the HW, many times. Same conclusion.
Right so I attacked maxxxter's music which I have never even heard. Yeah Ikmonkey wrote:That's perfectly fine. You just don't like em. I am sorry other attack you and your musicmaxxxter wrote:geroyannis, mandolarian - Thank You!

Good luck with your music anyway!
Well said Shy man (and only an idiot would/could disagree IMveryhumbleHOShy wrote:You see? This is one of the things caused by all the plugins people think "model a 1176". Use a real 1176 before you use words like "farty" to describe its sound. You have no idea what you're talking about. And the
disgusting smeared attack you refer to, blame the plugins. Also, if you use a 1176 (or any compressor similar to it) on a mix bus less than very sparingly and expect good results, the problem is yours, not the compressor's.
It's probably due to your long, rich history of condescending to everyone, telling us all what l@m3r5 we are for not playing death metal, and constantly showing off how every woman you sleep with looks exactly like Jessica Alba. Enough already!Dean Aka Nekro wrote:I never once said any such thing. The bowing down part it did make me chuckle though man. Yep you're right the 670 is indeed more complex, but it doesn't saturate like the new UAD 1176 models if your drive them hard.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:I disagree on the 670. Now, I used the new UA 1176s last night and UA certainly got them right this time. I'm not sure I'll be able to resist at the upgrade price.
Fortunately for you, when you do find your perfect metal girl, she'll have a tongue ring and know how to use it.Dean Aka Nekro wrote:Well my girlfriend is away so I dare to write that just about. She can barely tollerate the metal thing as it is. I'm thinking thats where I went wrong, The woman all seem to like these singer/songwritter vocals with acoustic guitar toting dudes that write about thier emotions and love songs...etc (WTF is all that about?)
