Ooooh yeah. I still can't get excited about typical 80s keyboard sounds (just thinking about the DX Rhodes makes me want to gnaw off my arm), because they were ruined in "countless hit records".ClubHo wrote:Synthix is great. Wish they had more modern presets...It's 2012, the 80s suck.
But presets wouldn't put me off buying it, as I almost never use presets.
ttoz, going back to your dongle question: one thing that really galls me is the fact that I have to pay to for being inconvenienced and hassled with an expensive little USB annoyance. If the devs would include a dongle with the purchase, I really wouldn't mind it that much (well, I'd still mind it, but it'd be a serviceable compromise). Steven Slate had a deal recently that *almost* got me off of my zero-dongle-mountain.

i guess i am a little disappointed that the synth has only 250 factory patches before buying banks, especially at that price.

Got them too and they are great.

I love Synthix very much! I've bought all the Xils Lab synths and they indeed offer something unique. Synthix gets the most use here from the 3 of them. I happen to love 80s sounds so it's perfect for me
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Massive sounds almost however you want it too. It does really pretty decent VA sounds - as good as a lot of other VAs. It has a ton of modulation options, so most sounds made for it are modulated, but no need to overlook the vanilla sounds it can produce. The FX could be slightly better - but I have a huge stack of FX.donato wrote:_leras wrote:Who's to say... I thought a lot of the sounds were a little flat and wondered if just turning up the cut off might help, but can you just turn up the cut off to alter the sound.... well not easily...ttoz wrote:but it doesn't matter what they do to the interface if you don't like the sound.
Really sorry to hear that. I guess we all have different tastes and *everyone's* is valid
cheers
It just doesn't have the presence that things like massive, largo, (diva), even some reaktor ensembles have....
I *really* want it to be a bit better... the real thing has made some of my favourite all time synth sounds...
To each their own. For example, I think Massive sounds awful and really can't understand why people like it so much! But I also don't understand why you bought Synthix if you don't like the sound
I bought the Synhtix soon after release due to discount, youtube clips of synthex and peoples gushing on here - but when I hadn't had a chance to hear it. It sounds a mile from the real thing and I still don't get why people are gushing so much. If you have a link to any decent sound demo's of synthix to prove to me it doesn't sound flat then please do share.

Aalto is definitely interesting. I might have to get that (even though I own approximately 2.3 bazillion softsynths already - way too many). It even seems to have more of a three dimensional sound than most softies (especially VAs).Shy wrote:It's definitely different and brings a smile. It's fun to play a synth that can sound pretty different than the usual stuff. Also check Aalto, its presets won't just make you smile, but also laugh, it's crazy (and sound-wise it's my favorite "virtual analog" synth).ttoz wrote:Really brought a smile to my face as has totally added an entirely different palette of sound option for my music i never had until i got it

ttoz wrote:just wanted to ask, serious question,
have those who refuse to entertain buying this because of the dongle,
have you at least tested the non dongle fully functioning demo to see if you like the actual product?
What i am asking is,
i think xils are watching..
write here if you would actually BUY it, for sure, at the current price, if there were no dongle, i.e. if the dongle is the ONLY obstacle.
No other ifs or buts, i am trying to ascertain where the dongle is the ONLY issue blocking people.!
cheers!
But yes we're watching now and I will read the entire thread before trying to give some valuable answers, if any are requested.
And thanks for the thread Théo, I'm very glad you like the synths and have pleasure with them, the most important thing

we asked for, they never answered. Its unfortunately that simple.ttoz wrote:well that's fair.
and i have to be honest i am very surprised they don't offer the non dongle syncrosoft version since they offer the dongle syncrosoft version.
It offers the same protection as the hard dongle syncrosoft, as evidenced by all the latest arturia synths which use it, not being K*ed.
I wonder if we could get a response why XIls are not implementing the non hardware Syncrosoft for those that hate dongles? And if the person changes their mind, they can move that auth to a dongle with a simple click any time.
Pretty much how duende has codemeter dongle or software version option but can be moved to dongle by the user any time.
@Resonator63 there's no real alternative to the xils stuff that doesn't use a dongle.... the sound is very niche and unique, the other big analog synth sounds absolutely nothing like it

Mate, life's too short to be suffering buyers remorse. I don't get why you are still hanging onto it - it's obvious you don't like the way it sounds, so sell it, move on and be happy. I think the best quote we have for this is the Paul Wiffen's one. He was the former programmer of the Synthex library, and the one who introduced it to JMJ, Stevie Wonder etc.HunterKiller wrote:Every time, this kills the entire argument. And it almost always comes from those who've not used hardware or owned the synth in question.ttoz wrote:I have NO idea how it compares to the hardware
No use in getting an emulation that doesn't emulate. Tons of other synths out there already.
So we spend 3/4 days with Paul, with a real Synthex ( Courtesy of Stephane Bonvaller from Spectra
We also took the opportunity to replicate at that time some presets of the Synthex, wich can now be found in one of the add on libs ( analog bags 1 & 2 ), and a few in the factory content. According to Paul, whose expertise I trust, these were the presets wich made the Synthex famous, and were used/modified by the who you know big guys.
I would not say that the Synthix is a 100% accurate emulation of the Synthex though, but I like the idea that it might be the closest one.
This was confirmed by several users who have a real Synthex btw.
Cant say much more on this subject.

Concerning presets :
First some people like Simon Ball, Julian Ray, Stephen ( Amused ), and Xenos have made adorable third party soundbanks, each with their own style, fantasy, imagination, identity. A big Thank you to them
According to what I know but cant reveal there, some other people are considering atm making some soundsets for Xils lab synths as well. I cant however promise anything, as it remains their choice.
Then we also propose our own sound expansions at Xils, at VERY affordable prices.
Another thing to consider : At Xils-Lab all sound designers are paid. And we respect them very much, their identity, their passion, their work. Its a very different politics that some other developers have, and it has to be reflected in the price. What I believe, beeing a sound designer myself, is that a synth without good presets is pretty useless ( I know a lot of people who like to do their own sounds will differ here, but I'd say that it doesnt change anything for them )
Then the last thing I can say is that at Le Lotus Bleu we will soon also publish some soundsets for Xils Synths.
All in all : You can get a lot of new instruments for your Xils Synths if you want so, at very good prices, and I think its what important : You don't "have to", but you can.
Also Sound designers who make 3rd party banks get full support from Xils. ( I wish I could have received the same support from all the developers when I made soundsets for their synths. Some did. Some not )

Why did you post this?
I got Xils 3 Beat Edition and just LOVE the sound of it. I've been eyeing Synthix awhile now, but I just broke down and bought the Poly KB Player.....
Can't wait to play with that now.

I'm just offering my take on it. I'm still glad someone made a synthix instrument and don't mind supporting people who are doing that, by buying it.rasscass wrote:Mate, life's too short to be suffering buyers remorse. I do hope they can improve the GUI for controlling layers etc, and wish they had paid a bit more attention to the sound.
Maybe I just need to make an entire track of nothing but Synthix and judge it on the end results. (the control of layers though,....

I have bought every single plug-in (VA or otherwise) that is on my rig. I would never want to take money from the wallets of the developers and owners of the plug-in companies.
But my favorite development companies BY FAR are those that trust the buyers enough to handle registration as simply a serial number / download process with several downloads possible. For instance:
Native Instruments gives you a serial number, and I've never run out of authorizations (I think they're unlimited). Obviously, if a buyer installs more than a handful at one time, a red flag should go up.
Spectrasonics is the same way...I've owned every single one of their plugs and never had a problem.
Same with Applied Acoustics (Lounge Lizard, etc).
As far as I can tell, U-He is the same way...and Lennar Digital...and reFX...and...Garritan...and Project Sam...and...
I work a lot on my laptop, and it's just a drag to be carting around an iLok or any dongle for that matter. Wow, in fact, with Waves V9, even they've done away with the iLok. It's all on the cloud now.
In addition to my laptop and two studio rigs...I bounce around on them depending on what other clients I have in at the time. ALSO, ProTools just came out with PT10. Well, many of us don't just jump to the new format without keeping PT8 or PT9 going in case there are bugs. So, this means having multiple partitions, so with all the companies mentioned above, I'm able to put all the stuff on all the partitions plus my laptop.
I'm an honest guy who would never give away someone else's work or reg numbers or login data...but sometimes I feel that those of us who pay for the stuff are penalized, while the illegal dudes download the kracks and can use them on as many rigs as they please.
So, my money is always going to go to the companies who reward the buyers with at least a few installs of their software...
