Ok, I get the part of 32Bit plugins not working anymore (not sure yet how many will be affected) BUT for some reason my VST plugins are completely gone/disabled.
I don't understand that part. Anybody?
checked all the relevant preferences in live? including the location of your plugins? (which is, by default, different for 32bit and 64bit VST plugins)
I always used the predefined folder. Now setting the custom one fixed it. Thanks!

Damn...microtonic isn't 64Bit seems...that SUCKS big time!

Will try the bridge! Any good experiences yet?

Im updating my list of what plugins work or dont work with live 64bit read further back.

I've listed all the 32bit plugs that I will be using. Got lots more 64bit plugs to install.

Space Bar - Play
Space Bar - Stop

What more do you want?

How bout FF, Rewind, locate loop brace, locate selection, or even just move the playback position from clip view like every other DAW in the world. It boggles the mind that their on version 8 and you can't do this!!!

Might be to do with Novation midi controllers having default mapping for Live.
Live also has its own custom built controller the Akai APC 40.

I see a big free 8.5 update before 9 comes out.

Edit: and here it is: http://www.ableton.com/live-8-beta

"8.4b1 Release Notes

Improvements and feature changes:

Live 8.4b1 introduces native 64-bit support.

The 64-bit version of Live allows the use of more than 4 gigabytes of RAM. This means that Live users can now work with Live Sets (including Sets using third-party plug-ins and ReWire configurations) that are much larger and more memory intensive than in the 32-bit version.

The 64-bit version of Live works with PCs running Windows Vista/7/8 (64-bit) and with Intel-Macs running OS X 10.5 and up. The 64-bit version of Live 8 does not yet support Max for Live, video, or The Bridge. We are currently working with our partners to add support for these features."
woo! :D

They do seem to have moved to the Pro Tools model of having a long full release timeframe but significant .1 upgrades.

There's been plenty of anger towards Ableton when Live 8 was a buggy release... all understandable. But I like their response... firstly a genuine apology from the CEO and in the couple of years since then there has been one give away after another. The free stuff I have received includes Amp, Cabinet, Retro Synths, Soundcloud integration, and now full 64 bit rewrite. Not insignificant ....

Thank you Ableton

It's nice to see the abes are actually doing something and not dead in water like previously suggested by some (though I'm not naming names :uhuhuh: )

Post

I never thought the abes were dead.

I think version 9 might even be a year away, but it will be so good!

I think Ableton are giving us enough to keep people on board... but meanwhile are developing more and more and more stuff behind the scenes...

And then when Bitwig finally reaches the launchpad, Ableton will be ready in the wings with an absolutely HUGE upgrade.

Also though .... suppose you are Ableton and you have 10 HUGE new features ready for Live 9. One of which is 64 bit operation...

As beta testing approaches on the horizon, doesn't it make sense to split out the 64 bit operation, which is 1) a big thing under the hood but 2) a specialised feature that some users won't be able to test?

Makes sense to me that 64 bit is one of those things long expected in Live 9, so right now they cut to the chase, and give it a beta all to itself within the Live 8 cycle. Meanwhile they can fix and 64 bit issues before 10 allowing Live 8 users to then have 8.4 for free as another great gesture and 2) moving quickly to the testing phase of the other 9 things in Live 9.
