can I just tell you have much restraint I have to show after reading this?zerocrossing wrote:Real beta testing of a complex DAW is a difficult job. Trust me, none of you really want to do it, you just want a preview copy. Companies have QA departments that spend lots of time and effort making sure software is stable. I'm sure Bitwig is doing this as well. What Bitwig is doing with the announcements is more of a marketing tool to keep people interested. Keep your pants on and be thankful when they release a stable product.
Ok, so who's enjoying Bitwig BETA??

A bigger reason for public betas beyond marketing and user feedback is compatability testing. It is very hard for a QA house to hit every scenario users may experience, and so it is a cheap way of using someone else's time hardware to find those bugs. Even the end user doesn't know how to properly report it, just getting the combination of specs together with a general issue is a valuable asset. Anyhow I agree most just want a free taster version
I can't disagree with that and if I were really seriously beta testing I would want to get paid. It is tedious work if you do it right.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

There! Fixed it for ya.zerocrossing wrote:Keep your pants on and be thankful IF they release a stable product.
Version 1 of complex software, outside of simple use cases, is rarely stable. The good news is...neither are its users.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

Sorry zero but I've been around a long time. The idea of it just "working out" isn't really in the odds.
They mentioned once that a "public beta" would happen like "live". Might work. Live was mostly good/got good in 4 and 5. However, I gave up after 6 so.....hard to say.

Sounds like someone speaking from experience. I used to beta test database software, and I can agree with the tedious comment! I can see where music software could be more fun though.

It will be nitpicked to death, watch... because version 1 won't perform every trick under the sun yet.
You see... in fast food DAW-ville universe... Rome actually should have been built in a day.

that has actually stirred my peanut sized brain.......
One of the reasons I'm so tired of all this crap lately is because of that old adage of "rome wasn't built in a day" Nothing against liquid, it's a general observation.
Will rome EVER be built?
For all the people that are "making music" there are a bunch that can't get this shit to work. You have to REALLY be focused to actually get stuff done and then let's face it.......a lot of it isn't very good.
So I say, f**king BUILD rome for a change. I'm tired of waiting..... 10+ years is long enough*
*I am dropping out......I'm just waiting for all you to buy all my stuff

Some people in that "other" position (I know your situation is a little different though, so it doesn't apply to you) probably should be buying things well along in development, like Cubase, Samp, PT, whatever rather than expecting a 1.0 to do everything those others do out of the gate.
Buying a 1.0 DAW and complaining about what it doesn't yet do seems a tiny bit counterproductive to mental health in general.
Most of us (like Reaper users some years ago) go in knowing we'll be waiting awhile for some stuff. Others buy and then seem surprised afterward when everything isn't there already.
Of course, they all reach a certain time threshold where patience begins to wear thin.
Bitwig will have some shortcomings. You can bet on it... unless those guys are just... the best developers in the history of the planet.

Yeah, my biggest thing with reap right now is that I really thought it would be "rome" The development was so rapid for 2+ years (I started at version 3.15) I was amazed. Now, with the little issues and how slow development is I don't know what to think.
Yeah, bitwig is NOT going to be an is all end all. If you are really waiting for "that" host then maybe if DP comes out with 8 (wtf happened with that btw??) that might be the one.
OR
"WHEN DINOSAURS ROAMED THE EARTH"............
(reaper, protools, cubase, live, logic,
)

I probably should clarify the following better to avoid misunderstandings ...

It took about 10 years to reach my limit of patience with Cubase's more modern direction. It took a left turn down Shiny Avenue and I wanted to go right to Practical Blvd, so we parted, I caught another ride.
Curiously enough, it appears to maybe be making a U-Turn.
