My understanding is that RV7000 is a true stereo reverb while RV7 sums stereo input to mono before processing.ttoz wrote:maybe a dumb question, but wouldn't patching the stereo imager into the reverb tail of rv7000 solve the stereo issue?fceramic wrote:It's certainly a software classic! Just wish Props could release a true-stereo version with some stereo control.
U-he's reverb should be available soon in the PropShop.
Also i noticed both RV-7 and RV7000 are stereo in and out, but for some reason, on rv7 only, when you add one to a rack, it only takes the left input, no matter what source.. you can add the right input manually, but i don't really get why it does that. RV7000 is patched in as stereo automagically.
i can't believe how much i love RV7000 in reason

Rewire Reason into a host and compare directly to Ambience (free), ValhallaRoom ($50), or Reverberate ($75).

As much as I like ambience, from times it can sound very metalic, hence why I like to use it for drum plates and kickdrums the most for gated reverb. The RV7000 i think is a lot more warmer and blends into a mix so much easier, but its been some time since I used both. Ambience reminds me also of the stillwell reverb, its meant to sound very digital to mimic the plate reverbs and stuff, and this they do very well

I also like the RV7000, and I can not explain why.
There's something different, it's simple and it works.

RV7000 sounds undefined/cloudy to me in a mix. On a single instrument it is fine, using a couple of the algos any way, not all. I think that it doesn't mix so well, rather it just gets easily buried/masked without creating defined space in a mix. When a reverb does that, I turn it off.ttoz wrote:
this is getting old. I would use Rv7000 over ambience ANY day of the week
Reverberate, the convolution reverb? the one with the play school convoluted (pun intended) gui? I don't do convolution
V room? good choice. that one i accept. Then again that one is also too complicated for it's own good. 8 million algorithms these days.
Reverberate, whether you like the gui or not, walks all over RV7000. I don't know what your hangup is with convolution reverbs, but if you think that the RV7000 algos are doing something beyond Reverberate, I suggest a hearing test from your doctor.
RV7000 isn't so warm as much as it is cloudy/undefined, imo. And it doesn't 'blend', it gets covered up, creating a foggy backdrop. I don't know what sources you are using through these reverbs (ambience and rv7000), but I'd like to hear some examples.Trakstar wrote:As much as I like ambience, from times it can sound very metalic, hence why I like to use it for drum plates and kickdrums the most for gated reverb. Well, more people seem to like RV7000 than dont like it, and its just people with nothing but bad words lucking for an argument probably. I just think reverb is very subjective. Also it depends on your experience with other reverbs, and your expectations.
ttoz has lots of experience with other reverbs and I respect his view.
As I stated on page one, I love RV7000, and find it especially great as an insert, less so as a send (where I think it's warm reverb can work well, but could also muddy the mix if you are not careful).
So I don't think it's a jack-of-all-trades (which presumably is what PH intended it to be in the context of Reason 2.5 onwards to 6.0) but it IS a very good reverb when used sensibly. It's all over a bunch of my tracks

Yea, a lot of people like a lot of things, and a lot of people are also wrong about a lot of things. Look, I think that for what RV7000 is, it is fine. It's a reverb bundled with a daw that doesn't eat tons of cpu. For someone opening up Reason and running a sampled piano through it for a little awww factor, it is fine, but I don't see it as being a great mixing tool. And I read through this thread, seeing someone mention that the spring algo sounds really good.....Trakstar wrote:Well, more people seem to like RV7000 than dont like it, and its just people with nothing but bad words lucking for an argument probably. I didn't mean anything by the 'get your ears tested' comment - just a little forum rib poke. If your issue with Reverberate is optionitis, then I agree with you. I think that it does sound good, but it would have been nice to see the dev refine it down to a more manageable set of core parameters....but, it still sounds better than RV7000.ttoz wrote:The thing is, i DO hear things differently, No need to go to the doctor again this week, as i went to my ear surgeon last week, and everything remains the same - I have complete one sided nerve deafness.. Altiverb was my favourite convo verb all jokes aside.. not only because of the stunning library, but with version 7, just such an intuitive joy to use. I love the tempo synced gating and pre delay also.
Reverberate is very powerful.. but.. it is one of those very RARE cases where i would not use something BECAUSE of the gui.. I could never get any constructive work done in it, i felt THAT uncomfortable using it.
Lastly, just to throw something else into the mix, to compare our overall opinions..
what do you think of lexicon plugin, (NOT mpx, but lxp or pcm), and the softube Tsar-1? thanks. Your knowledge of reverbs is quite interesting, especially your explanation about sitting in the mix.. and what you like.
If i understood you correctly, you like to know the reverb is doing it's thing.. whereas often, i don't... interesting.
p.s i wasn't trolling about ambience.. that one hasn't aged well.. newer than RV7000 and in that case i really do believe the reason verbs are FAR superior, i was never a fan of ambience anyway as is well known here.
I demoed some Lexicon stuff when it first went vst, but I can't afford that shit. Some of their stuff does sound really good, though. TSAR-1, I haven't tried. As far as 'hearing' the reverb, it depends on what we're talking about. For room sounds, I want the reverb to sound like a convincing room, not a bright wash, or a cloudy mess. For a plate or spring, I want it to sound like a plate or spring. If we're talking taste in reverb, which it sounds like we are, here is an example of what I think is a nice sounding reverb: The sound quality is piss poor, but that's youtube for you. Maybe you can find a higher quality example to listen to. A heavier handed example:
On Ambience, I have directly compared it with RV7000, and I think that Ambience is a better overall reverb. If you haven't done so, try a little direct A/B'ing. You might be surprised....or not....and I might be full of shit.

Because you have answered in such a better way than I previously did, you get your audio demos and I will test the RV7000 and ambience to the limits and we shall see once and for all. I havent used them for a while mind you and I do happen to think the spring reverb is excellent, you just have to know how to use it best because it is a rather unique algorithm. So i shall post back in a good few hours, sorry for the response, it was last thing at night and I was ready for bed, so, alright then.
