I'm not sure but after winning the last contest, it might look a bit skewed. Call me jaded but .. oh well, it's not worth the bother. No matter where you go in life, there's always a "fix" in on anything. Color me the fool for even thinking that things were different here.

Regardless, best of luck to everyone and I'm outta here...
Relax man, everything here is legit and fair, and everyone is
V'ger and Irion organise the competition here each month, but that doesn't mean you have to vote for them, and as stated above, all the voting is public anyway so open for all to see and check

Wow, i don't even know what to reply to that.
This is what you get when helping others...

I don't know if i even should take the hassle to explain that. But well, for some reason, i perceive that you just didn't have a good day, and you just had the needed to express yourself somehow, somewhere, so i will take your post in the best possible way that i can and i will explain it to you, so in that way, may you will feel better and i hope you come to participate more times. And also my silence won't be a way to give you the reason.

As the others said to you already (Thanks guys) this is totally democratic, and i'm not a moderator, neither KVR, neither OSC, neither Music Cafe.
I just like to help V'ger (and others, if you take time to read threads where people needed help or they were asking for something) when i have free time.

I even would feel bad if participants vote for me for any other reason that is not that they liked my track or made them feel something inside, due this is my goal. Yes, getting prizes is a nice thing, much more when i'm so poor and i can't afford anything by myself.
I never asked for friendly votes. And if someone just ask to me if i want some, i would tell him that i don't want. I always want to play fairly a respecting to the others.

I didn't win all OSCs or such thing neither, i have passed "bad times" too when i lose, and it was not for the prizes, it was mostly because i just wasn't on the level or expectatives of others or i couldn't express myself good when made that track. (Well, i just missed a Zebra in OSC 32 :hihi: )
But i can't win always, and this is a very important tip in our lives.

I can even understand that there are people that would feel the way you feel now, due i have won too many prizes since i came to OSC almost 2 years ago.
I'm always trying to put myself in the point of view of others, but please, forget about that, that's not the real thing. I hope all people who think that way will change their minds, if there is someone.

Is anyone there? Show yourself! :hihi:

I really hope that you can get rid of your bad thoughts about me and OSC, this is a friendly and a nice place, to learn, to win, to loose, to talk, to compose and to compete, so i hope you can come to participate more times, please.

You don't need to apologize to me, but please, just do it to the other participants and voters, i feel bad for them.

Have a nice day, Oktopus.

And thanks, guys

Sometimes when you want to be a part of a great idea or community you have to step up and take a leadership role, and I think Iron is doing a great job! My guess is this is the whole reason Vger and Iron are doing this, so they can keep the contest alive and have their share of fun too!

If you are new to the contest, please give it a try, because you'll find that it is much more than winning prizes or prestige. There is a really supportive community here. You'll find yourself making friends with people all over the world who speak the same musical language, learning so much more about your own music, and helping others with theirs. Just the simple idea that we are all together in this, working with the same challenges of the new synth each month really brings people together.

Regarding Irion winning many times, IMHO, that boils down to flying hours, and there is NO shortcut.

Other things being equal, person A practices 1hr for competition vs person A who practices 5 hrs, guess who's going to win.

So the key to winning is practice, more practice, and even more practice.

Cheers,
g7

Agreed, and we shouldn't be losing people like that especially when the numbers are increasing with each competition and the creativity level is skyrocketing. Personally I don't come here for the prizes or victory but because I like that people will genuinely take the time to listen to my noise and comment and help as well. I cant force my family to do it anymore. I'm a new member and I have had no issues. It all depends on what you came here (to OSC) to accomplish, I came to improve and get inspired. Oktipus said some out of line things but I would like to see his work in the OSC lineup again.

Thank you V'ger and Irion and good luck in the contest. My votes are coming soon. Its F&#@ing hard to decide.

I've also been involved for about a year now, and I've seen nothing to indicate that at all - to me, this really comes from left field.

I, personally, love Irion's music and vote accordingly, when he's created something that evokes emotion in me. In fact, one of his tracks is probably the reason I even continued beyond the very first month of participation - really, something to live up to.

But what it boils down to, rather, is personal taste... which seems to have a typical theme among some of the voters. Unsurprisingly, if you listen to the music that the entrants submit, the majority of the time you'll find votes for similar styles. I'm certainly guilty of this bias.

The other aspect is that it's both fortunate and unfortunate that some entrants are simply more talented or experienced than others (I wish I was in this group, but alas...). The good fortune is that you can and should learn from those who make tracks that are really good, not a single OSC'er that I've seen refuses to give pointers or advice. So, if you feel as though you don't want to participate, then don't. But any sort of insinuation that the prize recipients are rigged is certainly way off base.

Also, I too really appreciate V'ger and Irion for the efforts keeping this contest going - it's the best community I've ever been lucky to be a part of.

The voting gets harder and harder each contest! Congratulations to everyone for bringing in 41 tracks! And there was so much good music, it was painful to make decisions! :) I had the hardest time making my first cut of 19 tracks, just to fit on a CD. And after a week of jamming and vibing to them in my vehicle, I made my decisions:

5 POINTS TO: Jasinski - Summer Night Drive Time
The first thing you notice is that amazing guitar. It's more than just the synthesis, it's the emphatic playing that makes it so convincing. And this track is such a fresh take for OSC. Jasinski goes for a classic rock feel that, aside from a few subtle modern references, would be at home on a 1979 prog-rock arena concert! The percussion was just as convincing as the guitar. I love the classic Minimoog style solos and the string machine sound was a great addition. I'll say it again: "Jasinski is the only one who could out-Jasinski Jasinski!"

4 POINTS TO: Doc Jon - The Chase
There were so many good tracks, but this one showed off a great variety of Dune. Great sounds, exciting performance, and good variety between the intense groove and the chilled-out section. That portamento lead is so inviting! In fact that variety is what boosted you far above a lot of other excellent sounding groove tracks in the contest!

3 POINTS TO: Sovarozum - The Sand That Carried Light
Definately one of the most original sounding tracks of the contest, with a colorful performance, and probably the best display of Dune's capabilities! I was looking for entries that would delve past simple analog synthesis and get into Dune's FM, waveshaping, and mod-matrix, and this track delievered.

2 POINTS TO: Evo2Slo - Wormsign
I love this track! Evo2Slo has given us some fresh tracks with a real rock flavor, and this song brings me back to 1991, watching MTV's "120 Minutes," with groups like Love & Rockets and the Cure. All you need is a baritone lead singer with a thick British accent and dark satirical lyrics! :) But hey! Great synthesis! Great performance! A fun song!

1 POINT TO: Skyzone - The Mushroom House

You delved deep into some great tones on Dune, like the flute lead, and that went fantastic with an energetic, driving performance.

HONORABLE MENTIONS TO:
Angel Remington - For injecting OSC with some fresh trance sounds! They were all great entries. For the contest, I did feel like I wanted to hear a little more exploration in the synth, getting a little deeper into what it can do, but all your tracks sounded fantastic! Looking forward to hearing more!

AdagioCM - For the best reference to Frank Herbert's Dune! You should be writing soundtracks! In fact we had a ton of orchestral and sountrack styled entries! That was really cool to see!

Thank you V'ger and Irion and good luck in the contest.

LOL! and ditto +1 each to V'ger and Irion!

This was my first time to enter and had no feeling that it was "rigged". I don't think any shady competition would last through 44 instances if there was hanky-panky going on. Like another said, Okti probably was just having a bad day and hasn't learned to not take it out on others indiscriminately.

The only danger I do see in the voting is the potential for the formation of "mutual admiration societies" where a group or cabal of participants vote for each other despite the quality of other entries based only on membership of that group... but I'm not seeing anything like that and with 30 plus participants and only 5 winning slots it would be near impossible to rig the vote. So I am happy to enter with confidence my work will be judged on it's merits.
