Does anyone know how to make percussion like in this song (say like at 0:49)?

This type of percussion is used in 70% of songs. Is that hi hat(high pitched) or tambourine on every second note? It's definitely synth percussion, not real instruments...

Thanks again :D

Edit:
I think I did it...it's basically synth tambourine on every second note :S

I think it could be a ride thats pitched up, but to not really so important. Should be easy to recreate the "atmosphere" of that instrument by playing around a bit with pitching up stuff. In my opinion, it wouldn't really matter so much whether if you'll be using one or the other way to get there.

I played a lil' bit with percussion programming and I think it's 808 or 909 kit...dry or maybe a just tiny bit of pitch up. But like people said earlier they used 909 for kick, so they used it for everything else. I should have checked first

I want to make 90s Eurodance music, but i keep having the same problem. It sounds like trance at the end.

I found bunch of threads about 90s Eurodance, but basically they are all about instruments used back in the day (I have a lot of good VSTs, so that is not a problem). I need something more like a tutorial or a book on how to make 90s Eurodance (on how to get that sound). The sound I aim for is something like LaBouche, 2 Unlimited, Sash!...

I can do Remakes of old songs to learn, but I don't want to copy-paste other peoples music

Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi there:-D
I have to say that I absolutely LOVE the early 90ties eurodance music and even talk about it:-). So it seems that I am in the right topic. LOL. IMHO the best way how to do eurodance is to listen to it and to use instruments and samples from that time.
Here is a short simple example I made:

(the link cant be played directly :-()

Unfortunatelly I dont know many people listening to it today or even wanting to do such music :-(

Hi 10cypher,

I'm glad you joined discussion. That's a very nice song you got there, true 90s style! 8)

Yeah, I wonder (even if you make a good 90s style song), would that be marketable in these bad days for music! Nowadays everything is dead except house/electro in every form.

But anyways, I will try because I love that era of music...maybe I'll mix some elements like Sash! did back in the day! :)

Just an idea.. why don't you download some accappelas of famous songs from the past and try to build up a remake around them? That'd give you a very good way of excersising on this subject, and you won't need a vocalist for what you're doing.
For instance, I think there's a legally sold album with acapellas from the Motown record copany. It's of course not legal to sell the remakes you've done afterwards without clearing it with Motown, but that's another story.
YOu'd maybe say that Motown tunes are not Eurodance, but it'd be a great challenge to turn them into such, wouldn't it? And don't forget that Bobo and other good kids made the "Queen dance traxx" album, which contained eurodance covers of a band which ain't particularly eurodance either.. :)

OMG, that is a great idea!!! You're a genius! :D

I can take acapellas of old 90s songs and make my own versions. Something like a remixes of songs. Like you said, it is great for practicing production skills, because you have a ready vocals. I can't thank you enough for a good idea!!!!!!! :)

Youre welcome :) NOt sure if you know, but if you have the instrumental version of a song that you have the normal version of, you can make your own acapellas where there'll be almost only the vocal left. I know a free plugin named knockout (where one or both of the o's are/is a zero(s). Should be possible to google it up.

@Roman Empire I know that you can filter out vocals from a track, but I haven't tried it, because I couldn't find a good way or plug. Nothing beats studio acapella, but I'll give kn0ck0ut a try, it looks very easy to use. Thanks :)

Why trying so intricately with vocal removing software?? :o

You can get a MIDI version of the Eurodance songs everywhere in the Internet. Then you can put other instruments on the tracks, or your own vocals, and - voilá, the new remix is ready...

Think of Groove Coverage, they did it all the time, and they had much success! :)

@Tricky Loops LOL! XD
I would never do such a thing, as a musician you gotta be creative. I can take studio acapella and make my own version of music from scratch and I can also do rap on the track, but that's it. I really hate "stealing" whole track thing. I'm cool with sampling like The Prodigy (Smack my B Up is all made of samples - but that is pure art).

btw Roman Empire meant that I take acapella and add my own music not other way around ;)

Though you're right about Groove Coverage, they were successful. :D

With MIDI tracks you CAN be creative. You can change the whole track, that isn't stealing. If you pull down a house and construct another one with the parts, then you can be a great artist!

I agree, but if you change it and add your own twist. Than it's fine. :)

BTW, if you take the vocals from some Motown recording, THIS is stealing. And you can't change the vocals so drastically that nobody notices where they're coming from...

I only use public domain samples, licensed samples and samples that are recorded by myself, I wouldn't use acapellas from a well known record...
