Im still in the process of trying out all the DC12 entries, and well, i think i have just found a new favorite.

DelayStudio by MinimalSystem -> i dont think i have ever seen a delay like this. Its like a cross between a 3-band equalizer and a stereo echo with channel independent multi-mode filters. This highly unusual configuration not only allows you to set up a separate independent echo for 3 different frequency bands, (crossover freely adjustable so you can have say a slow echo with a lot of feedback in the bass range and faster echoes with less feedback in the mid and high ranges), you can also set a different filter type for each L/R of the 3 bands and then modulate those with an LFO which can be either tempo synced or freerunning. This results in incredible sound shaping possibilities which are definitely not possible with any 'standard' delay. And the good thing is it works well with any material, be it basses or pads or whatever.


So long story short; if you want to try something conceptually new and different for a change you should definitely give that one a spin. I honestly cant imagine anyone NOT liking what this thing can do. Even if you only use the center band as a 'normal' full-range delay you can do amazing stuff with the modulatable filters.

Dr device and analog flux delay, multi tap mayhem courtesy of band echo because I wanted something very retro and band delay does tape delay rather nicely with its extra vintage suite of side effects but not your general bread and butter type, the filter on Dr device is one of the best Ive ever heard period.

I really use this one a lot because you can split apart the left and right delay times even though they are still synced, which gives sounds lots of space.

dito. this delay is really great. and free/donationware. the only gripe i have with it is, that the signal path is laid out the way, that, if you set the pingpong to left or right input (which is necessary if you don't want to have an audible center tap), it feeds back only one side. as opposed to a true pingpong, where when the feedback is set to zero, you always have 2 taps audible.
and another small or not so small let down is, that one side tap is always louder than the other. in a real pingpong delay it's always same level per left and right tap, then fed back, then lower in level but equal level both sides and so on... if you put a pingpong delay on pads, this is a real issue with twin delay, as one side then is always louder...
other than that it's really cool...

spectral delays aren't exactly new...NI had one (but discontinued it), and izotope's spectron can do that sort of thing.

my go-to's are the psp delays (i just got echo over the holiday, and am dying to try it on something!).
if i had to pick only one...it'd probably be the 608md, but i use them all with about the same frequency.

Fabfilter Timeless is excellent, and more modulation than I can shake a stick at. Some excellent presets showing off the capabilities of the FX unit, too, and the GUI is easy on the eye.

fabfilter's filter code generates aliasing under certain circumstances. also, heavy modulation of the parameters under certain circumstances.

FWIW, I can back you up on this. Any fabfilter plugin with a filter sounds significantly better @ 96k than it does at 44.1k. Especially when you're modulating something with fairly high resonance.

I encourage anyone who doubts this fact to do their own tests. I'm not part of the aliasing police, but in this case the plug (timeless 2) does sound better @ higher samplerates. I was pretty disappointed to discover this.

If anyone cares to start a thread on fabfilter's forum, I'll back you up. They have implemented one of my feature requests before, so they're pretty cool in this respect.

Another vote her for RP Delay.

However, I usually just end up using the Delays that come with Zebrify. It lets me route/process the delays separately from the source as well as giving me a ton of flexibility on manipulating the sound.
