Yeah I am happy about that too.

Really an interesting synthesizer. Andrew asked me a few days ago for some ideas about percussion & drum sound creation. I have not tried it either on HYDi so I agreed and played around for a few hours.

I am pretty excited that HYDi kicks ass even with that kind of sound. I used fx I haven't used much before. This synth comes with an Early Reflection fx modul that works like a charm. The Resonator modul in the mfx section gives you lot's of choices for additional timbres. With this new build we even have a compressor in the mfx section. Haven't tried it yet but looking forward to.

The challenging part for us was more to compensate the lack of the dc resets of the generator waveforms. So I used the additional click option in the amp section for some transient sound.

HYDi's amp can now be routed either pre or post filter which has some massive impact on the timbre of a filter's sound. This can totally change their character that way (eg. try it on the LP 24db B).

I created some nice Kickdrums with various techniques, the snare sound took me some time to sound like a snare but now sounds pretty solid to my ears, a basic conga patch (ring modulation) and hi hats of course. And while I was creating hihats I have forund so many other cool sounds like a rimshot and a shaker. And thx to the fx section and the dual delay thingy they sound pretty groovy. Btw that was the first time too for me that I spend so much time with the different types of noise in the gen3 section.

If interested I can ask Andrew if I am allowed to post my "Broken Acid & Broken Drums" demo I send him a few days ago (well now slightly different, more polished). Because it's based on an earlier build it might not represent her 100% anymore. But the "acid bassline" shows some nice new features from the built-in 4 (!!!) step sequencer. Don't laugh, it is actually a 16 step sequencer but you have to figure that out on your own. :D

Anyways, I am already a huge fanboy of her. My goto monosomething synth. And performance is even better than before.

Sebastian

Well, you can count me as a fanboy too. I've got some old version and now trying not to use it, so it may spoil the fun of having the final ver.

Yeah sure - I liked the simplistic 1st one alot. Though the snare on the second one is awesome - Drums with a subtractive synth is tricky!

Don't use it - it's buggy!(And knob scaling is different). Inanyway - 'Gremlin' now has a 'breath' function + a special Modwheel control for the mod freaks + adjustable Q - which makes it a bit more useable + visual feedback.... Did a cool preset called SQ_OeAeWE - seriously freaky stuff - sounds like an amazon tribe singing through a crappy vocoder! Will post a sound example of it tomorrow.

Here we go. My first quick drum sound test. Decide on your own if it's hot or not.

100% HYDi. No additional FX, no compressor, no limiter, no nothing. Enjoy.

That's cool! Visual feedback - that's what 'Gremlin' needed, really.

LOL, while trying that 'Gremlin' thing got one preset called "Uwayao". Naming presets after formants is really informative, that's for sure!

Just a quick patch demo of Gremlin - the kick is also HYDi.

Thumbs up for death metal part

A new track. Made a heap of new patches today just figuring out how HYDi works. The new EQ (automatic Q with broader bandwith when boosted and narrow when cut according to Andrew) can add so much character. And the inbuilt compressor works like a charm. Thick bass patches possible.

Anyway, today I produced a little Drum and Bass track just for fun. This is 100% HYDi 1.3. All sounds from scratch: drums, perc, bass, leads, arp. And only inbuilt fx. Just one instance of TDR II Feedback on drumbus for some glue and Limiter No6 on Master with not more than 1db in GR.

Hope you enjoy it.

Hey guys,

had some fun this morning with some of my new patches. Assembled this little Teaser so if you have time give it a try.

This time with lot's of 4 step sequencer action, new FX, a TRAP SAW (my invention of a monophonic supersaw fake, still needs some finetuning but it works pretty good so far). All sounds 100% HYDi, no additional FX.

Just stop teasing us! (j/k)

What's a TRAP SAW? Is it some type of oscillator or it's just a generic trick that could be replicated in other synths?

The trap is a lfo waveform and I found out that this one is pretty good for modulating the AM of the oscillators. Gives them some kind of pumpin...reminds me a little bit on phasing cycles. Then three osc in unison mode with lots of saw harmonics and somehow distributed over the stereo field via pitch shifted delays in the fx section. :) Was just an idea and sounds good so far. Not a SUPERSAW but a TRAP SAW. HYDi is still a monophonic synthesizer with lots of mod possibilities so it's interesting trying out some concepts and ideas.

The claps eg. are inspired from the TR808/909 line. They use a superfast 2/3 stage envelope on filtered noise. I managed to get some similar env out of HYDi: I used the foldback function on one envelope. It's not a TR one but still works.

Right now I am pretty astonished that I achived everything without additional fx. Only inbuilt.

OMG, Halma, that teaser is sexy! (BR arpp HYDi version, r u kiddin' me?) Very impressive presets and tbh the overall sound and that crispiness is astonishing - I mean a sound like that out of the box? My God, what a difference... now I am starting to see why it took so long to see this beast updated :) Thank you for investing time & love in these presets and sound demos - HYDi deserves support :)

Teasing is just a by-product of testing :)
And 'real-life' testing is the easiest way to find bugs - of which I still have a half-pager to go. Atleast the default patch-bank is about done -> it's about a 50/50 collab between me and Halma - hopefully a little something for everybody.

If somebody said to me - while entering DC'12 last year "this is gonna take more than 12+ months to complete" -> I wouldn't have believed him :ud:

Cheers
Andrew
