Yeah, we can't think of a better mastering compressor plugin, payed or free. Very impressive!

Just out of interest, how does it measure up against Density mkIII, as that one is also known to be very transparent.

Good question. The thing is, when we started to use a 64bit host, we stopped using Bootsy plugins, as these plugins are not yet 64bit. As a result, I only have experience with Density MKII, not with the newer MKIII version.

From memory, I think Density MKII is less transparent than TDR Feedback Compressor II. Having said that, I enjoyed using Density MKII a lot!

I use both and find them very different in usage. While the DENSITYMKIII only gets some usage in M/S mode by me to achieve some more extra depth between the mids and sides I use the TDRFCII mostly on a single bus or a groupchannel (eg drums).

The TDRII indeed sounds utterly transparent but I also think that the DENSITYMKIII can colour your stuff pretty easily if driven too hot (though not in a bad way and only a tiny bit).

And of course the TDRII has lots more options in usage than the DENSITYMKIII. While the DENSITYMKIII comes with fixed timings (more or less) the TDRII can act way more different on every kind of material. And because of it's individual peak/rms timings it can act only as a PEAK limiter or a nice RMS squasher. Or both. But no M/S option here.

What I really like about the TDRII is the option to have a 3db/oct (!!!) sc filter. How cool is that?

Thanks for the info guys. It helps me to position this into my workflow.

I forgot to add that I rarely use presets BUT the BASS: EVEN (iirc) preset from TDRII is killer. Works on mostly everything that needs to be tamed in amplitude. Instant results on my synth arpeggios. And some of the other presets are pretty good too so the devs did a good job here.

The only thing I don't like about the TDRII is that mostly everything sounds way more louder then before. I mean gain wise. I have to adujst my output gain most of the time manually by -2 - -4 db.

Yeah , it's a fantastic compressor and finds it's way onto a fair few masters here. The peak crest control and 3dB Hpf in the side chain set it apart and really make for a flexible and highly musical tool.

Great to hear that Vlad Goncharov (creator of Molot & Limiter 6) is now part of Tokyo Dawn Labs too.

There is a planned "Gentlemen's Editon" of Feedback Comp with additional features that will be on sale for a nominal fee.

I personally can't wait to see what these two come up with next :)

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

@Halma: It's still a compressor, you know. ;)

@djscrob: Exactly! We unifying large parts of our development. No need to re-invent the wheel every morning! The move hopefully helps us to focus more on DSP instead of messing around with obscure bugs and technical challenges 90% of our time. :)

I think that somebody (= me) should extend the praise to the thorough and very well-written manual.

It's a very interesting read, even if some of it is a bit above my head. A learning experience!
