Would like to talk about experience with online mastering houses.

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

TBH I think you are driving away clients by not having a broad enough service.

On the other hand, I'm sure Laurend has a large enough client base as it is. There's no point in trying to satisfy every single person. I've several times recommended competing mastering services when I've encountered a project where I didn't feel like I would be the wrong person for the project.

There are enough people in this business for the serious professional to survive just fine.

I know there has been some talk over at gearslutz that the market is becoming over saturated but I don't believe that for a second! There are more people than ever creating music which is awesome!

Cheers!

BTW, my post wasn't addressed at Laurend personally. I'm just wondering that nobody has made bad experiences with some Online Mastering services...maybe they don't want to tell about it...

Because my name is quoted in the testimony above, I'd like to precise that such a problem can't exist with the service I propose.
The usual turn around is one hour or less. And at the time the free preview link is received, the whole mastered file is already available for download after the PayPal step.

Wow, Theo, sorry to read that story. That's a bad experience. I mean, I've got cancellation fees, etc. - they are necessary if somebody is booking an attended session - but for online stuff where the schedule is less rigid, it seems unnecessary.

I like the following ideas already on this thread; specially cause there's a big share of people out there feeling the oposite and being wrong imho:

- It's not the gear but the engineer: Most of the times better gear can make a good but little difference compared to changing a single setting.

- You get what you pay for?: Maybe yes, if you consider the popularity of the studio/engineer in the price. Possibly not, if you count only the final audio quality.
We all know, for an example being at kvr, that some freeware plugins are better than a lot of commercial counterparts, sometimes even the best. So price and quality are not directly proportional more ofen than they are.

- Communication is very imortant

- It's always in part a matter of taste

- Care only about what you hear and like: When you have samples in pages and specially whan you can get a mastered sample of your own music for free that's easy (or even you can get multiple versions of studios not offering samples if you have the money and feel like).
