Several people over on the electronic wind instrument site have praised Thor over the years and since I don't use Reason I had given up hope, but this has just blindsided me.
Hopefully I'll be triggering it with an EWI, so I'm usually working mono/legato and using aftertouch is a must. I hope it works for EWI just as good as the Reason version is said to.

Whoa- if you do that- please post. I would love to use my iPad with my EWI USB (but believe I can't just use the CCC as it doesn't power the EWI enough).

The EWI-USB works fine with the iPad but you have to put a powered hub in between the EWI and the CCC. For me, the added wires, connections and having to plug in the powered hub make it less interesting :) But, if you really want to hook up to the iPad, it does work fine.

I bought it and now I have to figure out which one to use live, Nave or Thor....I hate to say it but right now Thor seems to have the edge.
Some of Thor's patches broke up in my iPad 2 but the other million they gave us work great. Argh!!!
p.s.- I told my wife that Nave was it when she asked me how we could afford groceries or apps...Oops!
I experienced the same thing with my iPad 2. I went and changed the buffer/latency setting and all is well. :-)

Thanks for the hint..I'll try it too...

chris1a wrote:Most presets that tend to break up on iPad 2 at the default 512 samples setting have a high poly number on the keyboard screen (left over from the computer version). If a preset starts to crackle just lower the poly with a voice or two, it really makes a huge difference in how high the CPU usage is when idling not to mention playing the voices. And you probably don't need 8-12+ voice polyphony when playing on the iPad anyways, right.
Thanks for your help...

I did let me resistance get weak and got nave, which I haven't had time to really dig into yet. I'm going to have to hold off on this one due to total synth overload. Imini covers my synth bass needs very well. The promo video has good sounds though. If reason ever hits iPad I will buy it instantly however. I haven't really used it since version 4 but it always made sense to me and allowed me to work very quickly.

Thor isn't mainly a bleep machine. You've got Nave for that.

I'm not a Propellerhead employee. This is not a showcase of everything you can do with Thor. Who are you, the bleep police?

The sounds coming in at 1:20 sounds like a dude farting, quickly turning into nasty wet farts and finally like a dude shat himself - a shart. I mean no offense by that lol. It takes skillz to do sounds like that.

100% compatible with Thor for the computer. WOW!!!
Same preset format?
So will it open refills for Thor?

What if the refill contains patches not just for Thor?

Post

It will open *.thor preset files, not refills. So if you own a copy of Reason you can get to the Thor presets in there and save them one by one, or use some kind of refill unpacker to make the process faster. Some companies sells Thor preset packs in *.thor format if remember correctly.

Anyway I imported around 1500 extra presets into this thing, but since it lacks any kind of folder/bank/preset manager/structure it all just ends up as one reeeaally long list of presets. Plus it makes the app way slower when opening the preset menu and so on..

Yep, that's the story! I cut the rest of the sounds... didn't want to cause any post-traumatic stress :D

Thank heavens I am still on iPad 1. All these fancy new apps? Nope. I am old school, and so much the richer for it -- who needs all of those option, really?

Now check out my Bebot solo.

Edit: I took the bait, and ... It will operate on an iPad 1. I cleaned up memory and background processes first, and had a rebootmearlier in the day, but I still expected it ti be crashy and sad. You occasionally have to be patient, and of course poly patches often glitch (thanks for the earlier pointer on that issue, which improves things a little), but it works well enough to say that it is fantastic. Remarkable capabilities, ZERO CRASHES after 45 minutes, and fun tweaking just the presets. Nom.
