Nicky Romero Kickstart

let's pretend that I'm an idiot . . . (& that's not that big a stretch really)
I've seen the UTube with Romero & this plug looks and is priced freakin' GREAT

? - where in the drum track > bus > master do I place this VST ?

? perhaps I make a send of "all other" tracks/bus's and sidechain that from the drum bus ?

simple here . . . :=)
expert only on what it feels like to be me

I don't know why people are talking about making sidechains with Kickstart. For a sidechain I'd need the output of a track to drive a dynamic processor (mostly compressor) on a different track.

But there is no side-chain input in Kickstart! It's a simple volume changing plugin that - on the kick track, for example - can create dynamic effects that sound like ducking or pumping...but for real sidechaining there are always 2 tracks needed.

sick of seeing peoples names littered on plugin interfaces

Nicky Romero is a 24 year old Dutch DJ and house producer. His wiki doesn't say anything about him being a coder. I can't imagine what he can contribute to the plugin that Cableguys couldn't do just as well or better on their own. Are they unable to determine a collection of useful curves?

I'm gonna guess this is like Cableguys buying stock in a company that they hope will blow up big like Tiesto

Its a shallow practice and makes the company doing it look manipulative and condescending

on another note:

Cableguys new plugin Kickstart
New VST KIckstart from cableguys
Cableguys put out a new plugin, kickstart

many ways you can phrase this could sound like they are doing a fundraising kickstarter campaign, which is what I thought when seeing the thread title for the first time. Are cableguys trying to game search engines with that name or something?

Well, it's a good price. I know BT went to Izotope to make Stutter Edit, but I can't imagine Romero said: Hey, I need an easy way to sidechain.
I'd like to know what the audio pass through sounds like. I have Grossbeat which does the same thing, and you can draw the envelopes, but audio sounds 'not right' when you put it on a track. I don't know if it's a buffer issue or what, but volume and brightness are noticeably diminished. How does Kickstart stack up on this?

You put it om the instrument track you would 'sidechain' the kick to so the volume envelope is ducking the sound relative to the kick drum.

Waves do the same with all sorts of music producers, Computer Music have their producer master class sections in their mag and in their Youtube videos. You can also find a section with which famous musicians or producers use the products on most companies websites. It's a common thing to advertise that way, people rather buy products that the "pros" use.

Maybe Nicky Romero sent them the idea for the plugin?

I'm quite sure that he isn't a coder but the idea could be from him, and why shouldn't the Cableguys team up with him? It's an advantage for both sides...

yeah and all that shit is tiring and exhausting and It makes bigger companies look like dicks but makes a small company like cableguys look kind of desperate and shallow and less than genuine.

but then why is his name on the top, and displayed bigger and brighter than the actual plugin name? that's not a real artistic design choice, its a bureaucratic design choice if I ever saw one.

The difference with BT and stutter edit is he actually coded it. He had his own software dev team, sonik architects I think, that either got bought by izotope or disolved when he sold the rights to them. Either way he did alot of the original work on it.

Then again he is sort of a singleton case when it comes to these sorts of things, 90% of these names most likely dont know a lick of code or where to begin on something like this. The name thing does seem odd to me to. Even if some name sponsors it Id much rather know the name of the actual developer for support reasons and to maybe see what else they have. Like with stutter edit, bt's name is on there, but its not the whole damn thing. Same with sausage fattener, dada's name is on it at the bottom, but its not massive
