Yeah, it's a bit shitty to hate on music. Some of us are a bit snobby, perhaps. I just hear this mainroom stuff and it's not that I don't *like* the music (I don't like it, but that's immaterial), it's that it fills me with cynicism to the point that when I see how popular it is, I feel there's no hope for people who actually like, you know, music. Creativity. What music is for, and not music as some fashion bauble or bandwagon or cash cow. It's the same kind of outrage I feel when I see nurses and cleaners being paid a pittance while those with frivilous careers like footballers and politicians are commanding salaries that are spiraling out of the stratosphere.

I don't usually go to comment on some music someone likes to offer a negative. This thread is right entertaining though.

I'm a snob and no one is ever going to shame me by the word. They're reverse snobs at this point. I believe my tastes are superior to people that buy this EDM shit and I'm not ashamed to say that either. Or, I'm an ELITIST to think that music done by people that really cared and got their chops honed can be 'better' than music made by drug-addled intellectual infants for a rave. I don't give a shit. If one is ever inclined to toss that shit my way, be apprised, it's nothing to me.

Signal to noise ratio... decreasing... everyone says they "love music", coulda fooled me. It's just a fashion accessory to show which tribe you belong to. Music is actually devolving, as is everything else that feels the caress of the mighty dollar.

One of these things has been true all my life, that music is a jacket or a wallpaper to consolidate 'my style is...' and then project to the outside world and adjoin that to a thing 'the others, just like you'. "Which tribe" is more modern lingo for this. But I feel it is devolving rapidly out of the access to production via the computer software. Inevitable, an historical inevitable. In terms of actual capacity to make music, it's about muscle and sinew: USE IT OR LOSE IT. Cf. The Time Machine, HG Wells.

I'm still coming across great, interesting, inventive, creative and wonderful music. More now than ever.
I don't have to listen to popular charts. I don't have to wade through mountains of stuff I don't like to find what I do. I couldn't give a rats ass what is popular in popular clubs because I'm not popular and don't go to them. I've probably heard more of this kinda shit at KVR in have-a-pop-at-this-crap type threads than anywhere else. I hate it, but I seldom hear it. My mp3-player plays the good stuff and nothing but.

But yes I'm a music snob, and I'll defend anyone's right to their own music snobbery - even while arguing that they're wrong and I'm right (which they are and I am, bitches!). A good "my preferred music is better than your preferred music" banter is most enjoyable when they're not three times my size and full of testosterone (which has happened, and my face was bit less pretty for a bit afterwards..we live and learn)

My only line is if someone is putting themselves out there asking for feedback (not sales) and I hate it or I'm indifferent, then I just don't say anything. They might do something I like someday...

Yeah I should probably just come out and say it too:
I'm quite the pretentious music snob. But usually my extreme cynisism doesn't kick in on most pop tracks because I realize it just that: pop music, which, as mentioned multiple times above: has devolved into nothing but some kind of fashion statement.
But once in awhile something just comes along that you just have to wonder..."what was going on here?"

there's quite a bit of decent main-room stuff out there (though at my age I don't typically hear it in the actual, uh, main-room). you can play to the genre and still be creative.

that was, however, quite objectively crappy - starting with the awful timing of the flute track itself (and not in a "human error" kinda-way). just plain sloppy.

trying not to hate, but if you're gonna have 12 million views...earn it.

Meh, the flute song was pretty awful, but no worse than the millions of "me-too" awful music out there. But, it's not even in the same league as the Rebecca Black song because it just lacks the whole teenyboppery, auto-tuned, party party fun fun fun, yesterday was Thursday, today is Friday, kickin' it in the front seat, stuck in your brain but your fingernails are too short to claw through your own cranium to remove it cheese-drenched awfulness.
