Wow this is mind blowing... I always thought Ohm was one pretty amazing how it was built for collabing. I might have to use it.H-man wrote:Well, there are a couple of compromises, always on internet connection, no native preset handling (you need to use the VSTi to save the patch ...no a big deal), no internal midi routing without using a modular VST inside Ohmstudio etc.bjporter wrote:Very cool, I wasn't sure if it supported vstH-man wrote:Interesting thread. I have a copy of Ohmstudio and have been testing it to see if it would be viable for OSC and of course collaborations. Took a little bit to get up and running as I had to "weed-out" my plugin folder but seems pretty good so far.
There is a free version with no real limitations other than no Wav export.
Info here: https://www.ohmstudio.com/shop
On the positive side it does have a nice track/rack system with modular (audio) routing including side-chaining FX and if it does crash, your work is always there as the system backup up as you go ....but in saying that I take no legal responsibility.
Additionally, DigitsVST seems to work just fine

It has an integrated "chat bubble" too
(text, not voice)
Sounds like I'm selling
I would say have a look tho as it's kinda suited to OSC in some ways.

I bought Ohmstudio to support them because the idea is great. However, the DAW itself is pretty bad. They have not listened to customers, not pushed updates in almost a year, and have the UX of a potato. Wish I could sell it, but it's not allowed. If you thought S1 had the worst support on the planet, they managed to beat it!
Never managed to keep the app open for more than 5 min before being frustrated as hell. And GUI is tiny!

Do you know what would be amazing, if we could find a DAW whose user base are happy with the updates and the rate at which they are put out.
Maybe one for another thread
I am thinking I will give it a try and see how far I get before I run back to Podium.

hmm might be interesting to integrate that into Reaper

lol, maybe you're right? I don't really know enough to say so I guess I can take your word for it.z.prime wrote:Oh, Reaper?H-man wrote:Do you know what would be amazing, if we could find a DAW whose user base are happy with the updates and the rate at which they are put out.
I'm pressing on with Ohmstudio for the time-being. Who knows, if it holds up I suppose I can invite people in on the project ....for a look at least.
So far so good but I only have 8 instances of Digits and a bunch of the internal Comp and EQ as well as some TAL Reverb 3 on AUX 1

Probably not going to participate this month. I've got a couple other projects I'm working on at the moment, from which I don't want to get distracted. We'll see tho. Certainly gonna check out this synth.

Well, when I'm trying to create a kick patch, something random happens with the sound when I play the pattern. Sound becomes louder or more quiet from kick to kick. Is it a FL Studio problem or a synth?

That happens a lot of times with pure synth percussion. Maybe someone else has a better patch - did you try the kick patches on page 1?IrregularDan wrote:Well, when I'm trying to create a kick patch, something random happens with the sound when I play the pattern. One of my tricks is to drive the volume really loud, then throw into a limiter - which should keep a more steady volume.

This is a typical problem with OSC synths - like there's something free-running under the hood and the kick is not consistent. Try to eliminate any free-running oscillators if you can. Unfortunately, we have to deal with this limitation - e.g. the no sampling rule.IrregularDan wrote:Well, when I'm trying to create a kick patch, something random happens with the sound when I play the pattern. And yes, as bjp says, try to throw a limiter on top and boost into it to get a more consistent level.

So, what you're saying is: Don't Fear the Reaper? Especially if I want more cowbell?SirKen wrote:
Do yourself a favor and go for a cheap decent DAW. Reaper is fantastic, heard good things about Podium and don't forget that there is also Mulab which gets great reviews from its user base.
Don't underestimate how productive working with a nice DAW with a good workflow can be.
You got a good point there! I'm notoriously cheap, because I assume I'm broke most of the time, but sometimes having a good DAW can ease the investment of all the time you spend messing around with things that may or may not work! Saves a lot of frustration. For a little while I used to work with Cubase 6 & 7, and using a pro DAW really showed the ease of it. I actually have Cubase Lite Edition 5, which came with my audio hardware, but it's somewhat limited for OSC! I'll check out Podium, and I might consider the full version, but Reaper does look really amazing for $60.
