MPulse is a good name... but not for a synth, eh? If he was doing a convolution reverb or something, that would be a winner.thecontrolcentre wrote:Most of those names are terrible ... voted for MPulse (again).
Poll: Let's choose a name for MeldaProduction's new synth, last round :)...

You could take a tip from D16 and call it something that nobody can pronounce.
How about:

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Apparently not.Nielzie wrote:Did not vote. Why? It should be MSynth. It's simple, easy to remember and right in line with all the other Melda named plugins. Isn't it obvious?
But for a really original and unique name, why use the "M" prefix at all then? Seems to me that's a ball and chain in this context.

Then you should read the Monster cables article again.MeldaProduction wrote:Cool, now you got me a little more positive!
Although I agree with Blackwinny that the word Monster and derivatives should be freely usable, Monster have pursued companies, products and even a TV show on that basis. What I think you need to consider is not whether you're in the right or in the wrong but do you have the finances or legal team to take them on if they were to pursue a case against you? Knowing that this company has pursued similar legal action in the past, if it was my company I'd avoid the risk in the first place.
At the moment MMonster its third so you'll most likely not have to make this decision anyway!

Interesting to watch this second poll unfold.
Out of curiosity, I have a few questions related to how people perceive the name MPhatik:
Out of curiosity, I have a few questions related to how people perceive the name MPhatik:
- Would it have made a difference to anyone if MPhatik was spelled MPhatic instead?
Is the k a turn-off? Too German / Native Instruments looking?
- Is the word Phat (even though it's part of the correct spelling of emphatic) a turn off?
Too cheesy; over-used?
- Is the word emphatic somewhat foreign to your everyday language use and perhaps therefore not so memorable or easy to read? Is the name MPhatik kind of confusing looking?

I'm not sure if having 50 people brainstorm a name for 20 seconds each is better than having one person brainstorming for an hour or so.. In some cases 2 minds aren't better than one?

Actually, the problem is not whether or not they will win. The problem is always whether or not you can afford to defend yourself against a company with deep pockets and a team of lawyers.BlackWinny wrote:Monster is a common name in the dictionary. It belongs to the patrimony of the humanity as all the common names, so it can't be patented by anybody. It means that nobody can't attribute himself the property of it, like any other common name. Only original words can be patented and declared as restricted properties.
"MMonster" can be declared as original property and patented by yourself if you create a product with that specific name, and it becomes your property. But "Monster", being a common name without any modification, can't be owned by nobody. And nobody can't forbid you to create an original word (and trade mark) based on "monster" with a modification never used yet. You can ask it freely to any advocate specialized in international marketing, he will answer the same thing.
Edit: I see someone above beat me to the point

I don't know why people are so fond of that one. Not really a fun name.zerocrossing wrote:MPulse is a good name... but not for a synth, eh? If he was doing a convolution reverb or something, that would be a winner.thecontrolcentre wrote:Most of those names are terrible ... voted for MPulse (again).
Kind of reminds me of the fact that I make too many impulse buys of plug-ins.
And I don't want to be reminded of that when I want to make an impulse buy of MMeldulator.

MPulse sounds like something from the 70's.
MPhatik (with the k) is clever and looks nice...but actually, Phat is a cliche, and emphatic is weak (would anyone call a synth 'Emphatic' ? "have you heard about that new synth Emphatic...er..no".
MSynth tells it like it is..proudly...it's timeless. And future synths could be MSynthSomething.

Agreed, all these names are kinda silly. They should probably just call it MSynth or Melda Synth.goldglob wrote:MPulse sounds like something from the 70's.
