I guess it's synth month because U-HE is finishing the new Hive synth

Well it was just pure speculation on my part probably not true at all, just wondering haha
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

I remember, it has been discussed that doing CPU efficient unison thing should be the main point of the Hive synth. Supersaw in Diva is gorgeous, but quite CPU hungry.penguinfromdeep wrote:I wonder if it's based on the jp8000 module in Diva? Maybe you can make the same sound with Diva, or maybe not
Actually, it seems to be another Sylenth killer. Poor Sylenth, it has been almost killed so many times, but it is notably hungry for life.

Maybe its DIVA's Jp-8000 but with some modern features added and more saws for us to detune. Imagine if Roland made a sequel to the JP-8000 & 8080 and did it properly what would they make I think it could be that. Mines got more detuned saws than yours.

It's the JP8k part of Diva with a silver synth picture UI... Load up Diva, print out a picture from the Hive video and bingo! You've snuck into Hive Beta!Aiynzahev wrote:Cant wait to find out more about this!

Not JP-8000, but very much like the other synth.
Audio demos soon, to see how the super saw holds up.

Nice.
Would be cool to hear some audio demos of the filter behavior, and especially the envelopes too. That's where i feel most of the other plugins struggle, and differ the most.

Also, as of today, 16 voices wit 32 sawtooths + 2 lowpass filters each on my machine:
Hive: 13%
The other synth: 27%
Not sure if it gets any faster. We might however reduce aliasing in the filter a bit (it is already lower than the other synths). This would bring it up to, say, 18%.

If i remember right, "classic" supersaw is so powerfull because it doesnt have any aliasing.

If the other synth is the one written by a guy whose name starts with L, I guess this level of optimisation should be fine for everyone.Urs wrote:Also, as of today, 16 voices wit 32 sawtooths + 2 lowpass filters each on my machine:

Yeah, envelopes, still work in progress on my side.chk071 wrote:Nice.Would be cool to hear some audio demos of the filter behavior, and especially the envelopes too. That's where i feel most of the other plugins struggle, and differ the most.
Hive will however not sound identical. E.g. we're going to scale super saw detune over the keyboard to give higher notes not such a fast beating when the bass sounds good. Therefore, the inevitable A/B comparisons will be controversial.

No, the JP-8000 uses a trick - there's a highpass filter that attenuates the aliasing *below* the fundamental frequency. The aliasing above the fundamental can be quite substantial.fwsuperhero wrote:If i remember right, "classic" supersaw is so powerfull because it doesnt have any aliasing.

What's the other synth?

HIVE - Hereby I Vanquish Everything
I'm glad it's not intended to emulate that other synth, but will have its own idio-syn-crasies.
Flavours, it's all about flavours.
As to why u-he is doing this? Well, apart from the 64bit Mac issues, etc etc, I'm gonna make a huge optimistic guess/assumption/hope that the price will be considerably lower than 'said other synth', and offer humungous bang for buck for the sound quality.... thus selling like hotcakes, creating a legion of new u-he fanbois (welcome in advance, dudes), and making Urs the wealthiest synth dev EVA!!!...except maybe for that other German dude who does that hardware synth...thus enabling him to buy many more vintage synths to emulate and incorporate into Berlin Modular!!!
And thus taking over the world.
Just sayin'...

It could well be that it is the infamous "that plugin".Echoes in the Attic wrote:What's the other synth?
Well, recursive one's last post should make it more clear.
