Just a question: how many instances did you use?LuxLucid wrote:I'm jumping into the fray...
Here's what I got so far. 0 samples used ; FX used are ValhallaRoom on a send buss and a couple channels, The Drop and DCBC-2 on the stereo buss, Presswerk Compressor beta (I got til around christmas lol), TAL-Dub III Delay (very moderately) and WatKat (heavy on the transition fx). Think there's some KVA distortion somewhere for gain. The rest is Q10, Alloy (no transient fx) and DCBC-2.

Glad I decided to join OSC on such a fantastic synth. I wanted to challenge myself by using no drum samples, and this is proving a great opportunity. Was able to get great bass and drum sounds without much coaxing (well maybe a little with the rez knob). Detuning and interval features are brilliant as well. Ended up greatly enjoying (ab)using it -- something I gladly would have paid money for.

Funny, you don't hear or use a word for a time then it pops up back to back. I just used it in my soundcloud description for my updated song last night xDbftucker wrote:I am glad the situation with track playback has been ameliorated!
(Why yes, it is a nice word. It should be used more often. Think of it..."plugin X.2, new and ameliorated!")
Looking forward to hearing more tracks as the flow out of the woodworks... ^-^

I have a feeling that the spam filter might be blocking my soundcloud link. The link to the forum i was trying to post to:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=426319
The text i was trying to post:
I suppose i'll try this out, was recommended by a friend to check the synth out and thought what the heck.
https://soundcloud.com/kirbyfemur/thine ... -challenge
DAW Used: Fl Studio 11
Effects Used: Fruity Free Filter, Fruity Multiband Compressor, Fruity Parametric EQ 2, Fruity Mute 2, Fruity Limiter (for side chaining), Classic Reverb, Classic EQ, Classic Compressor, Classic Delay
The "Classic" vst effects are the "Kjaerhus Audio Classic Series" and can be freely downloaded, despite the fact that i believe the original site is down sadly.
So far 13 instances of Ragnarok. 5 for the kick, 3 for the snare, 2 separate "hit-hat type percussion's, 2 "leads" and 1 bass
This is a very early version with only a few hours of work so far, but I like posting progress to see if there's something i can do with it, since i am still learning even if i have been making musics for a few years now. Sorry if we aren't supposed to post progress tracks yet, and i haven't posted this to the soundcloud group yet since i have to wait until i can get whichever soundcloud version that lets me at least edit my tracks with new versions of the tracks

Your kick/snare combo is amazing.Trying to get my own kick/snare combo going right now, and having a hard time with this synth.... Can't tell quite yet whether hearing this gives me hope or wants me to walk away because I've got so far to go, haha!!Kirbyfemur wrote:I have a feeling that the spam filter might be blocking my soundcloud link. The link to the forum i was trying to post to:

Love the overall sound - dirty, but punchy as f%$ck!! I don't like the lead sound as much as your your kick/drum and bass sounds (I think the lead reminds me a little *too* much of the 8 bit days, haha!) but the rhythm section here is quite an accomplishment - congrats!

Sounds much tighter than the original you sent me! Love the intro sounds.
And IIRC you can update submissions as many times as desired until the deadline.
Hopefully I'm finishing my soundbank this morning, couple good presets for perc in there...jlanthier wrote:Trying to get my own kick/snare combo going right now, and having a hard time with this synth.... I found regardless of what settings you set, you will need a good amount of saturation/gain as well as sharp eq/compression to make the kick/snare pop.
EDIT/UPDATE: uploaded! Have fun

Seriously - Right off the bat - tighter percussion, and warmer sounds... MUCH better starting points than the standard presets... thank you!! As a newbie at synthesis I find I've been learning quite enough about synthesis and mixing with the OSC even with help from great presets from more experienced users. I'm not at the level yet where this feels like cheating, haha! I really put some effort into patch design this time but was still coming up short - I was honest about feeling like just giving up, haha!
It's so cool that people are so helpful around here and everybody gets to learn at their own level and still be supported by everybody including the groups more advanced users. So glad I found this competition... now - off to continue composing!!
PS. For anyone who has trouble loading these patches - I use Reaper, and when I tried to load the FXB in the main Plugin window for the Ragnorok track (like I usually do) I got an error saying that they were created for a newer version of Ragnorok. But they loaded fine when I used the 'FILE' button inside the Ragnorok GUI, beside the patch name!

27 Instances of Ragnarök (16 of which are for percussion)
Track FX:
27 ReaEQ

3 TwinDelay
16 Classic Compressor
Master FX:

PS ... Most patches from scratch - but there are 2 original presets in there with the most minor of tweaks! Kudos to the designers of the hardware to the software port. It was fun once I got my head around it. Easier than Flexoid I can tell you that for nothing!!!

Just kidding of course. Sounds are subjective and largely aimed at certain styles, so the default presets might simply not be the ones for you. Kudos to the sound designers that made their presets available already
Indeed, Björn did find some sort of patch-load bug in Reaper, that he worked around in his own code that is used inside the Ragnarök preset loaderjlanthier wrote:PS. Which is actually closer to the truth!jlanthier wrote: much better starting points than the standard presets..
I agree that the original soundbank has some real gems - but for a percussion-focused track, LuxLucid's upload is really a god-send. In fact the sounds I've heard from what everybody has been uploading to this thread makes me want to send out another

Thank youjlanthier wrote:I agree that the original soundbank has some real gems
The very few percussion/drum presets I made for the default bank where indeed 'just' starting points, and for myself a quick try to acknowledge that Ragnarök could actually do drum sounds. The drum sounds in the OSC tracks uploaded so far totally smoke my default drum soundsjlanthier wrote:but for a percussion-focused track, LuxLucid's upload is really a god-send. Nevertheless, I'm working on a track (I must do one of course) that mainly uses the default sounds (as I made those in the first place), including the default drum sounds. Some slight tweaking of course and I've stacked some sounds, mainly strings and brass. But the style I'm doing is needing those exact sounds, which shows my clear bias in designing the presets in the first place

I agree the default presets lack a certain, let's say, umph!, but to be fair the default bank is more to heart with what this synth is all about (or at least, the hardware synth it's modeled after). Most of my percussion presets were using purely the filter, which is great for that modern punch but not really unique to what the synth offers... I do really like the filters though, is there something special going on under the hood, Full Bucket/CrimsonWarlock?jlanthier wrote:Haha!! Besides resonance in the filter, noise provides a good graininess needed in perc sounds, although, white noise can only do so much... maybe a pink noise option in the mk II version I've heard so little about??
Can't wait to hear it! I do love the 'lucky man' preset, def will use in a production soon or later...crimsonwarlock wrote:The very few percussion/drum presets I made for the default bank where indeed 'just' starting points, and for myself a quick try to acknowledge that Ragnarök could actually do drum sounds.
