if you want a Wavetable synth ( a la massive), extremely powerfull, with some clean osc : serum
if you want a more analog synth, Hive. this 2 synths have some greatest mod matrix, the unisson is excellent, fx too but they can take some cpu.
after that, if you want to explore, elektra2 is so powerfull, a lot of brilliant ideas inside(source mod, style of synthesis, layer, filters, no cpu power, fx) or nemesis for the"easy fm" and his excelent fx and arp and workflow, don't forget Dune2.
you must take in consideration your cpu power, and the interface work flow too, test the demo.
but to be honest, buy a new vst only if you have some extra cash to spend, because with zebra2 and sylenth , you can have a lot of possibility for your sound design....

Spire ftw! Why isn't there a poll so we can all vote for our favorite synth?
On topic: Noone will be able to tell you. Just demo, and choose what sounds best to you, and what is closes to what you want concerning the feature set. Sounds easy, and should be easy.
This thread is the perfect example why you shouldn't ask others what to buy, some will say synth AB sounds awesome, others will say it sounds like sh**. Don't go down that road, i've been there, and had to part with the plugins i bought on that base, because i didn't like them at all.

I now I'm going to get a lot of flack for this but here goes.
It's not the synth. It's what you do with it.
I have about 125 VSTs in my collection. Actually more if you count all the Reaktor ensembles I have.
Sound: There are many ways to classify the "sound" of a particular synth. I like to use these terms.
Bright
Dull
Fat
Thin
Glassy
Muddy
For example, take Synthmaster. I would classify this as a Dull, Fat, Muddy synth. it's great at basses, low ARPs, house chords and the like. It's also good for fat leads. It is not good for glassy atmospheric sounds like Absynth 5 or Omnisphere or at least not as good or as easy to program. For one thing, Synthmaster has no samples like Omnisphere. Everything is waveforms. If I want a nice atmospheric Yanni like tune, I go to Omnisphere. If I want to do house music, I go to Synthmaster.
Now, I would recommend Synthmaster to you based on the kind of music you do but you'd have to buy the house package for presets because programming it (if you hate Zebra) will drive you nuts. It is very complex. So because of that, Synthmaster may not be a good choice for you.
Looking over my collection (and I don't own everything so stuff like Sylenth1, Nexus, etc. I can't comment on) these are the synths that are relatively simple to use and can pretty much create the type of sounds you're looking for fairly easily.
Blue II - Comes with a massive library
Electra 2 - Nice sized library. Latest sounds
Rayblaster - One of the more unusual sounding synths
Synth1 - It's free. It can do your basic bread and butter house stuff. Free patches avail.
TAL Synths - All the free ones. Great sounds. Easy to program.
Trance Drive - Free. Great for trance leads.
That's about it. Everything else I have either doesn't fit the music you or is too complex to use based on your comments about Zebra.
FWIW, what you have right now is more than good enough to get the job done. It's just as shame you can't find the time to actually learn how to use the tools you already have.

What? MPowerSynth has not been mentioned here? I wonder why. This synth has a shitload of extremely flexible effects on board, it's a real powerhouse. One should at least take it in the list of candidates and have a look at it.

It's a great synth. I have it and I love it. The interface would drive him nuts with all the hidden screens and popups. He's looking for simple. MPowerSynth is anything but.ZentralmassivSound wrote:What? MPowerSynth has not been mentioned here? I wonder why. Hehe, yeah, not exactly an eye candy. It's complex, but 90% of the things are where you expect them to be, so it's kinda intuitive once you have grasped the general concept and once you have learned the 10% which are not so intuitive.

Zebra is actually one of the simplest semi modular synths you could want and he can't even wrap his head around that with everything pretty much right out there in the open. He'll never be able to wrap his head around MPS.ZentralmassivSound wrote:Hehe, yeah, not exactly an eye candy. Hell, I might as well recommend he get KarmaFX or MUX.

You're problem is that you are trying to decied between synths. That's not what we do here at KVR. We decide if we want a synth... all synths. Buy all the synths that have any qualities that seem good, then when a new one is released, decide if you want that one too. Then, look back on the last decade and wonder why you didn't make any music.
