what real world proportion of pro studios, do you think still use PT of some kind?

Here's my general perception of AVID and midi, up to a certain point or version anyway...
Their bread and butter was audio and no matter how many bedroom producer kids on Gearslutz moaned about how PT's midi or virtual instrument handling sucked compared to Cubase or Live or whatever else, AVID, and the vast majority of full time professional PT users, couldn't have cared less. Really.
But times changed along the way. They woke up at AVID and realized that at the same time they maybe seemed to be having trouble capturing new users for various other reasons, there were also lots of people scoring and producing with virtual instruments, so they started paying more attention to it. Not to mention that really expensive and great sample libraries started to show up and it's logical to think lots of professionals would be using them in lieu of hiring players all the time.
But seriously, you can read those discussions from 10-15-20 years ago, people bashing PT's midi as if most full time PT users tracking and mixing bands and making money with it even cared about any of that... or if most of them even used midi a lot or even at all.
It's the "whatever I do is always the most important thing in the world" syndrome.
Adobe, otoh, said f' it. They completely scrapped their midi sequencer. They decided that trying to please everyone was a bad idea for their product.
Honestly, at $600 for the "vanilla" version, PT is not even really a mass market consumer product anymore like Cubase, where you can buy into a version at $200 or something.
