I find the entire 1492 soundtrack wonderful. I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more often.

I forgot to mention one of my favourite Vangelis tracks - the theme from Missing:

I have always been fond of Mark Ishams soundtrack work.
Always tasteful.

Tron soundtrack is fantastic. I didn't mention it because someone already had (or confused it with the soundtrack to Tron sequel, which was from Daft Punk, and not so good, IMO.
I have zero time for Daft Punk, frankly. I don't have better than the vague impression I retain from The Shining for TRON. I meant I'm not going to watch it again, I saw it a few years ago and it's pretty much a waste of time. Loved it stoned in 1980 or whatever it was. I don't like a lot of things I used to love, today.

TRON is not at all like The Shining. It's much better, IMO. Actually, it's the album I like the most from everything Wendy Carlos did. It's not just the sounds - the composition too is superb, and very modern classical. And the fusion of synths with symphonic orchestra is great (especially in the ending titles, where even the pipe organ of the Royal Albert Hall is added). You should listen to the album.

Love 'The Shining music' - is that by Wendy Carlos? Don't think I've ever watched Tron, or listened to a whole Daft Punk track either actually

TRON Soundtrack was from Wendy Carlos. TRON sequel (called TRON: Legacy) soundtrack was from Daft Punk. For the record, I am talking about the soundtrack to the original, not the sequel. Here:

There is one DP track (not a score track) that moves me almost to tears every time I hear it: Touch (with Paul Williams)

When I hear that voice ... absolutely beautiful

OK I just gave it a go - I do like Paul Williams - however all the gimmicky synthy techno sounds just get in the way. Couldn't get through it all. It would be good with a simple piano accompaniment.

Yes, that's true. Fully agree. An acoustic version would be awesome. :)

The Shining has electronic music by Carlos and, what was it, Penderecki...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shini ... soundtrack

So my vague recollection is, I wasn't bothered by her music next to this rather fantastic collection of music. This part of the wiki reminded me how unhappy she was with this gig.

TRON is f**king goofy. It may be fun for yez. (Mickey: "Your honor, I said she was f**king Goofy, not that she was insane.")
I don't know if I ever heard a whole Daft Punk track either. I know that 4 bars of that shite gives me the gist at least.

Nothing wrong with Daft Punk. They aren't some incredible duo or anything, but they've made some good stuff.
