Voil'a, for me it's C:\Users\xbitz\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 9_64\Presets

(ps. drag and drop is working in color theme editor in C9 between the color selection boxes with)

Cubase is simple, set to move requires TS and move it, job done, then use variaudio to align if needed. I might be doing it wrong with BigWig though, I really am inexperienced with it, but I do like it, and I like the way they've made it work for 2 screens. If I don't move from Cubase, I may well be getting this as an addition, it is pretty decent tbh.
Take a look at these videos

Another thing I like in Bitwig is how easy is to change the views, try Tab, Shift+Tab, A, D and etc, they really taught this out, it's not just there as an option/possible workaround so it feels little clunky and you need to set it up how you want it all the time or save template (like Cubase and Logic), no, it's really an main feature.

Also you just need to touch something and you can automate it, want more curved automation, press alt and do it, not possible in Cubase...you don't even have to do it in arrangement window, press A and you can do it in the docked part.

Layered editing is way easier now.

There's more for sure, this from top of my head. :tu:

I'm still a little confused (likely my fault, not yours LeVzi) as to which workflows you think are vastly inferior? I know the mix console has been overhauled, and the general LOOK of the program has changed, but the core workflow hasn't. You can still record and edit in pretty much every way that you could in 6.5. So I'm genuinely curious which specific things you don't like? Maybe we can help you find a preference setting or give some tips to help you adapt?

Also, as you've discovered (but maybe not gotten to work yet?), you can indeed get the old color schemes back. I wish the presets were easier to transfer and access, but you can change all the main program colors directly in the settings.

As for the plugin blacklisting, I have a LOT of plugins, and I only had maybe a handful of plugins blacklisted. 4 or 5 maybe. And with only one exception, I just had to manually enable them and they work fine. So I think the plugin scanner is using pretty high "standards" and if a plugin takes an inkling too long to load, it blocks it. But you should be able to re-enable most if not all of them. Have you tried that, just for kicks?

It all goes to show you how different everyone is. For me, I owned Cubase 6.5 and sold it. I had certain things that annoyed the daylights out of me and I wanted those fixed before I tried Cubase again. And wouldn't you know, by version 8, they had addressed almost every single one. With version 9, they ticked the rest off the list (at least the major ones, as I have some minor things I would like changed still). I think Cubase 9 has the best workflow yet because the main workflow from 6.5 is there, but with features that reduce clicks and frustration (many of the window annoyances on Windows come to mind). Somebody mentioned the pass through of hotkeys for the attached mixer, and that is indeed annoying. But it's only a smaller annoyance for me personally.

I've used most hosts out there, and own current licenses of multiple hosts like Sonar and Studio One and a couple of others (yay for great sales and timing and terrible G.A.S., haha). I've put in a lot of time with hosts like Reaper and Live. And honestly, if you like the Cubase 6.5 workflow, there isn't a single host out there that will be closer to what you like than Cubase 9. For me, Sonar is great but quite clunky, Reaper is just a mess and has no cohesion whatsoever, Live is just backwards to how I like to work, etc. Studio One is my second favorite host and has an amazing workflow, but lacks some advanced features still. And nothing I know of to this day has as many creative composition features (not counting EDM groove creation or loop mangling, but I do more modern orchestration and pop/rock type of compositions). So I have settled comfortably back with Cubase. And honestly, though some don't like it, one of my biggest loves about Cubase is how unified the interface is and how clean it is.

So I hope you can find either a way to love Cubase 9, or another host that can supplement your 6.5 work. We are spoiled for choices these days. In the end, I would personally suggest just giving Cubase 9 some more time, mess with the colors, enable the blacklisted plugins, and ask questions. You may end up loving it, you may not. But if you love 6.5 so much, I think it would be a shame to not give 9 the full shot before giving up. There really is a LOT there to love once you get rolling. Good luck!

hehe, spoiled for choices?

They cost too much or don't work right for far too many (including "real" musicians)

Frankly, it's 2005 in a repeating loop. Cubase? I own it in version 9 pro. I like it. But there are things I wish were different.

Bitwig? I own it, I like it, but I wish some things were different.

Reason? I own it (version 8.3) and I like it, but I wish things were different.

One thing good about those 3? They don't crash or have kooky cpu issues*. But I can bitch (without it being first world problems) about all of them.

Especially considering this is a bottomless pit and has been since the first time I tried this garbage.

*my time with reason saw cpu usage get worse and worse on the exact same system. I've never experienced that before.

Wow thanks for these, they actually have solved the GUI issues I had. I can use the various aspects now without eye strain.

So keep up the good work.

I checked pricing for upgrading, so now I find out they are asking more money to upgrade from older versions to newer. As far as I remember it was one upgrade price, now they grade it.

That I find, disgusting. As being loyal shouldn't cost more, I couldn't afford the 100+ pounds each update, so I still have to pay it for the new version.

£242 is too expensive, so im stuck at 6.5 anyway lol

I switched to Studio One and found it to be more similar to Cubase 6.5 than Cubase 7 was, not to mention that the Melodyne integration is better than anything I ever experienced with Cubase.
I did exactly the same for the same reasons (I got a very cheap cross-grade deal so look out for those)

I switched from using Cubase + Live to S1 and Bitwig- really happy with both decisions.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Upgrade pricing is ridiculous for all.

Reason: 129 a pop
Bitwig: a yearly sub
Sonar: everyfuckingpricingschemeknowntoman

etc.

Just wondering, but, what upgrade price would not be ridiculous for you?

In this case, we're talking about 5 years of development, 3 new version numbers, and 5 paid half version numbers, in Cubase's case. Yes, Cubase is not the cheapest DAW, but, frankly, buy 3 or 4 soft synths, and you already would have been able to buy the Pro version of Cubase for the same money. I don't think DAW's are very expensive, frankly. You pay 150 € more for one year subscription of the Adobe Creative Cloud.

My reading of this is that upgrades from older full versions aren't included.
You are eligible for price-reduced upgrades if you own one of the following products:

Cubase Artist 6/6.5/7/7.5/8/8.5/9, Cubase Elements/AI/LE/Essential/Studio/SX/SL or Sequel. The updates and full versions of Cubase Pro 9 and Cubase Artist 9 are excluded from this special upgrade offer.

LeVzi wrote:What ive tried so far is this.

Sonar - It looked nice, but I couldn't get on with it. I will give it more time though.

Studio One - Actually forces my PC to shutdown when scanning VST folder.

Ableton - I own it, and cannot stand it. Never liked it, never will.
I recently switched from Cubase to Studio One, and I like it a lot so far. In some ways it's much simpler and intuitive, although Cubase might have some features Studio One hasn't - but I haven't missed it yet.

I think you have a plugin or hardware problem if your comp shuts down on VST scan. I would try and do some troubleshooting with your plugins to find out where the problem is - it might be a single plugins that's causing trouble.
Also do not scan 32 bit VST folder if you're using 64 bit Studio One - it doesn't work!

I've tried plugins from the following manufacturers without any problem:
  • Native Instruments
  • Voxengo
  • Waves
  • Waldorf
  • Blue Cat Audio
  • Brainworx
  • Dead Duck
  • eaReckon
  • FabFilter
  • TAL
  • Tokyo Dawn Labs
  • ToneBoosters
  • Variety of Sound (64 bit bridged)
  • WaveArts
Studio One 3 | Reaper 5 | NI Komplete 11 | Konkrete 3 | Voxengo Premium | Waldorf Edition 2
Free Kontakt Loop Player | Free Battery Dark Kits | Fight the loudness war - Pleasurize Music

Scanning for plugs via Cubase has always caused crashes until C9. You have to close and re-start Cubase to have the plugs re-scanned. Been this way since at least SX3, on Windows anyways.
