software is a tool that allows us to complete a given task.
social media is full of tools that distract us from a given task.

Can't we all just say 'No!' to plugins?

Or, who can answer the question: "what's it like to be a plugin?"

GAS can be a lot of pain… when you withhold it. And one day, it'll go… BOOOOM. And you buy 20 plugins at once. Very unhealthy.

This is what I think before and after buying any plugin. :hihi:
Unlike hardware, software will eventually lose its value as operating systems advance and make software obsolete.

Hardware just keeps going, until it breaks, but it can, in most cases, be fixed.

Agree. Hopefully the software I have right now will work for a few more decades.

But as you know, but have their pros and cons. For buying one amazing hardware, you might have to save for years, and by then who knows what will happen. Also, hardware problems can be fixed, but it takes time, efforts and money.

If you live in present and don't worry too much about the future, software is the best bet in music world. I am not comparing hardware and software, neither saying one is superior over other. Just saying about the convenience aspect. :)

Haha you'll be lucky if it lasts that long! Look at past windows releases, most, if not all, have had less than a 10year lifespan before being superceded.

True hardware is awkward to get fixed, but I find hardware far easier and far more satisfying than software. But software offers so much more! It's half a dozen of one and six of the other. Both have strengths and weaknesses.

I'm my mind, neither is complete. Never will be until they merge. A bit like what Akai have done with their latest MPC range.

Imagine a hardware workstation with an OS that can run a full blown DAW including any VST's. While at the same time auto configuring its controls in a logical way to control the parameters.

Something like that's probably a long way off but that's the future of electronic music production. It's just that although companies see it, they drip feed us to make more money. Korg pro, mini and monologue are a prime example of this!

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
