My solution for the resolution is not using the old devices. Europa, Grain and the players are ok and can replace the old ones for me
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

When I built my new system, I built it specifically to address Reasons' graphical shortcomings, while knowing Reaper or any other DAW would work fine in any resolution or scale.
If you want Reason to look great and improve workflow, you either need 2 monitors <=1080p, a decent 27"+ 1440p, or a 4k 4-4-4 at 40" or more. I also prefer working in windows at 120+hz which will come soon enough with 4k, but that's just an eye comfort thing.
I have no need for graphical improvements in Reason, however I know it was my #1 complaint from 10+ years ago in 1024 up to 1080p and is huge for anyone still on those resolutions.
My signature is what Propellerhead needs to do.

The solution I see is to develop a bigger and new Rack and make a container for the old Rack Extensions till the developers update their devices (I can bet 100 to 1 that Korg Will be the last one!
).
Actually, if I increase the font scaling to 125%, things gets better but I don't want to change that every time I run Reason! I've got other programs to use and all are fine with 100% scaling.
Good thing is VST is supported now. The CPU is less efficient than in other hosts, but I have zero problems with my installed plugs.
So, overall, I'm happy for the direction that Reason is heading. The modular design makes it easier to add new devices and even more creativity to use them.

You know, I'm not sure if this is just some wacky super advanced technology specific to Australia, BUT, I have these things called spectacles/glasses and when I put them on (over my eyes) it makes me able to see all these invisible things in Reason (I'm on a 27" 5K screen) that my tired old diabetic eyes can't normally see....WITCHCRAFT!

Propellerhead never changed direction. Even after creating the perfect modular market for RE devs to create the devices, Propellerhead insists almost exclusively on developing devices for you each upgrade. This both competes directly with REdevs and make some users happy if they can utilize the devices, while others not happy at all.EnGee wrote:The solution I see is to develop a bigger and new Rack and make a container for the old Rack Extensions till the developers update their devices (I can bet 100 to 1 that Korg Will be the last one!).

Better for Props to create devices and offer them in the marketplace they themselves designed, and work much more on the DAW itself (which is sorely lacking, yet everyone can benefit greatly from) while letting REdevs (or VSTs now) devices be a personal choice as it should be. That is... if they want to be considered a competitive DAW and not a rewired instrument.
I'm hopeful, we've still to see. R11 is a far way off and no one *really* knows what 10.1+ means yet.

The problem with reading glasses is then you cant see anything further away than 12 inches, makes it hard to reach for my guitar!jacqueslacouth wrote:You know, I'm not sure if this is just some wacky super advanced technology specific to Australia, BUT, I have these things called spectacles/glasses and when I put them on (over my eyes) it makes me able to see all these invisible things in Reason (I'm on a 27" 5K screen) that my tired old diabetic eyes can't normally see....WITCHCRAFT!

I have "general purpose glasses"! I mean it is for driving mostly (progressive one). I don't have for reading as I can read fine without glasses (like these words now!), but I think it is a time for making new glasses just for reading!jacqueslacouth wrote:You know, I'm not sure if this is just some wacky super advanced technology specific to Australia, BUT, I have these things called spectacles/glasses and when I put them on (over my eyes) it makes me able to see all these invisible things in Reason (I'm on a 27" 5K screen) that my tired old diabetic eyes can't normally see....WITCHCRAFT!
Anyway, here is a comparison in GUI between Thor and Massive. Tell me which one you prefer to use when you look at this
I believe differently as the VST support alone is a big turn in their direction which many believed it won't happen.Psuper wrote:

For me, I don't see it lacking really! Maybe I'm old school by now, but my workflow is simple. I record what I play in Midi then if needed I correct some notes. There are enough for me to be creative really. Of course it can be better with some added 'clips' Live like workflow option ..etc. But as a music creation environment, it is fantastic. I got it for $220 2nd hand license and still consider it a bargain!

Besides the GUI scaling issues, how well can you work with 150 - 200+ track projects ? Is a that painful experience relating to GUI song management of the instrument tracks themselves ? Because that's what I'm doing now in Studio One.
The combinator is 15 years old, dating back to version 3.0, why has that never received an update and where are features like 'folder tracks' ? I mean you have a combinator with stuff in it but you have no way of seeing, controlling and managing what is actually there at track level on the actual sequencer lane like you can in other daws..
Why does this rudimentary stuff not even get thought of at propellerheads and implemented...?

This was a change Propellerhead made due to overwhelming demand by most of their users. A change many of us don't even need but welcome nonetheless.Engee wrote: I believe differently as the VST support alone is a big turn in their direction which many believed it won't happen.
More importantly with regards to my point, you missed it -- VST addition is more devices, has nothing to do with work on the core DAW as I mentioned. I've had "VST" support forever with midiloopback and a variety of tools easily obtained by anyone who really needed it.
VST inclusion was second only to native Audio which took them all the way to R6, a full 11 years after Reason was released, before they felt forced to add it in to become a "DAW" instead of a purely rewired synth.
Precisely my point, albeit only one small specific example, and one I don't necessarily need but I could see how others might.THE INTRANCER wrote:Besides the GUI scaling issues, how well can you work with 150 - 200+ track projects ? Eh ? You quoted something that EnGee stated, but you have it look like I had stated it, your second quote is what I stated but, you've lost me on the conclusion you havePsuper wrote:This was a change Propellerhead made due to overwhelming demand by most of their users. I don't write operas! I don't have the need for 150-200 tracks!
There are some negative points, but I still like Reason and I hope to make it my main host. Yes I criticize some aspects but I'm not a hater

Oh Boy, I was watching the video up until he tried to compare the SSL mixer to Reaper. He turned me off and I was about to puke with disgust. How in the hell did he get the confidence to compare the unlimited band EQ of in Reaper to the limited SSL EQ. The comp that Reaper came with is much superior to Reason. Are we still in the age of bling bling or are we comparing what it can do? Getting paid to advertise a product is one thing but comparing a freakin 8 send limited restricted Reason with the every thing is unlimited DAW like REAPER is insanity.THE INTRANCER wrote:The size of the rack even at 1080P resolutions was one of the main reasons I eventually switched. I held out for version 8 expecting something big in dealing with the gui scale of things relating to the rack and features implemented to deal with it, but it was just completely half baked and hasn't changed in 4 years...
Anyway... here's how bad Reason is from those using it, even at 1080P... and what Woody thinks of it...

Everyone knows that Reaper is for people who can't afford a real DAW and like to dress in black.
