Well that's the thing, I think most people are more excited by the bass, I can't see the point of the kick myself (a drum kit yes but not a kick on its own) and found the sounds boring

The kick samples included are quite diverse so not a lot of options for each style. Bit that's ok, you can drag and drop your own samples onto the plugin window if you want to draw from a more specialised sample pack. And then it's a nice toolkit for adding another sub/click/noise layer and processing them together.

Aha, I see them after opening standalone so the plugins must not be auto updating.

First it's a pita to tweak the sound with so many pages and such a small interface. It's tiny on my screen.
Honestly, with so many unbelievably good samples around, I don't know why anyone bothers with drum synths. The thing with these little machines is that they are designed to present you with the important parameters, leaving you to dive deeper as you seek more control. I think it is one of the best GUI paradigms I have ever used.

The thing is, I believe the original intention was to have kick and bass in one place so you could mix them more easily (the full thing includes a ducking compressor). Also, the full version's sequencer allows you to change the sound quite dramatically between steps, so you can get a lot more tonal variety within a single rhythm. Not quite kick, snare and hats but something like kick, snare and strange percussion sound in one sequence is doable, if you want it. Kick definitely seems too limited as a standalone but in the full version it is more useful than I thought it would be.

Hhhmmm... you'd think there would be more interest in something this good for free. Apparently not.

We've had our share of new synths and sales lately so there is much competing for attention.

I was very excited with the Trk-01 but i'm still waiting out for massive-x to see whether i will go for the upgrade of komplete instead of buying NI synths seperately.

Still have to look into trk play. I've installed it but still discovering Pigments at the moment.
