How about join a songwriting contest? Maybe the spirit of competition could bring the goods out? Or try to write something that's completely different from your genre. How about compose something for a choir. Busan Festival's coming up.

It could be a temporary thing, and apparently from the replies alone, you can tell it's a common thing. I thought I'd be able to find more songwriting inspiration when I got married, and even more when my first child came. But as it turned out, it's quite the opposite. It even feels as though I have less motivation to write when there's more reason to be inspired. So I do other things in the mean time.

Are you professional under contract or doing this for fun?
If it's the second, than let that sink in, you are doing it for fun.

I agree - I think sitting in front of a computer screen is one of the least inspiring situations I can put myself in. I'm fortunate to have a piano in the same room as my DAW setup, along with a number of guitar amps and some acoustic instruments. The DAW is where I head AFTER I get some ideas.thecontrolcentre wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2019 10:42 pmSomething else ... why are you staring at a screen unless you're there with an idea, or at least something in mind? Evolutionarily speaking this is technically true.DJ Warmonger wrote: Thu Feb 14, 2019 8:14 am Nothing else. The point is to make music just to allure females![]()
The only answer is to choose the music and BJ's from numerous random females or emotional companionship, a failing music career and a gradually deteriorating sex life.
It's a tough choice.
(this is a joke)

Tow more thoughts that came to mind from reading this thread:
IDEA 1:
Do you play instruments? I find that when I'm at 0 inspiration, I set out for a practice session instead of a "creative" session. Focus on "noodling" on the guitar or piano.
On guitar I play to a song I like and work on playing a fill-in melody on the fly. On piano I choose simple chords and work on building them into a song by introducing melody.
I find that before the session is over I'm usually inspired by something that came up. In fact, when at the piano I sometimes pause to capture what I'm doing on the phone for future reference.
So maybe shed the pressure of "creating". Just start a practice session but in a creative setting: play along with a tune you like, practice creating a companion melody, or practice your scales by noodling a melody along some chords.
IDEA 2:
Another thing that ignites inspiration is a song study exercise. I select a few songs that I find inspiring, and I try to study the reasons why I find them so appealing. I try to break down the melody, chord changes, try to identify what aspect of the song is what resonates with me. Again, after a little while I'll find myself inspired to create something unique off this knowledge. I usually find that I like a song but would prefer it to go in a different way, so that inspires me to make my own thing: an adjusted chord progression or a different direction to the melody. Sometimes even the lyrics can be the source of inspiration, and then write a melody that matches the direction I want to give the lyrics.

Wait until you have children... the first years they keep you awake by night and in daytime you're exhausted like hell to do something valuable.
Been through that.
This thread shows that so many other creative people share the same familiar issues we're struggling with.

Join a band or find a collaboration partner. I can't accomplish stuff on my own. I don't have the motivation of Prince. But I do accomplish stuff when I collaborate.Distorted Horizon wrote: Wed Feb 13, 2019 9:15 pm After I met my girlfriend, I haven't released a one single song, I haven't finished one single song and pretty much I haven't really even made any music in months.
Now I really really tried to make some but I don't have any ideas and mostly I just stared at screen with this tiny "iiiiiiiiiiiiii" sound ringing in my ears

True, but they get older and start to ignore you and you have more time on your hands and then its sort of back to normal. it kind of all comes down to what you want to spend your disposable time on. in my case, i have more interests than i have time for. music, cars, books, sports, drinking .. its so great to have ADHD.bulevardi wrote: Mon Mar 04, 2019 12:02 pmWait until you have children... the first years they keep you awake by night and in daytime you're exhausted like hell to do something valuable.

Yes, and when you have a bunch of kids, you can start a band with them.telecode wrote: Mon Mar 04, 2019 1:14 pm

In my case I hope my kids will learn an instrument properly so they can learn it to me, because I suck in music.

You can agree with your girlfriend to get time for your hobby on a certain schedule.
"Each tuesday evening, I need my free time in my studio without getting disturbed".
I've been through that... but then, I cannot seem to get creative on command on a specific time.
If it's sunday and I have an idea, I want to create straight away. I mostly try to record the melody directly with my guitar on smartphone, to have an example of it to listen to later on.
Then again, there are other issues ... When in the studio, I first need some hour to get in the mood, listening to the previously recorded stuff and it takes really couple of hours sometimes to know which way I'll be heading to with my music, to grow the variety of sounds, the layers, ...
And than... there's the lack of discipline. I always get distracted, in the scarce hours I spend before my desk and I start doing different things, FB, YouTube,... and I waste my time again.
Seems that familiar?

write the difficult third album, filled with love ballads, that makes your fans go wtf?
complete with cover image of you topless sat on a horse looking in to the distance, longingly.

not having had any real relationship in my sad 32-year-old-life, i have to say, be glad you got a matchup. there's plenty other legit reasons to have the creative juices run dry.
aggressively record her in your new tunes, i would say. if she ain't complicit, use her audio waves to generate anything.
i am not a political person. your life and your choices are perfect. just don't use it /her as a meme for attention. of course she's also feeding off yer creative juices, wherever they come from. life is a vulture. so is your girlfriend
incorporate your girlfriend into your music. make stupid 4/4 and have her voice or farts feature. music is one rotted note anyway, so just have at it.
