I never doubted Bitwig's intentions for an instant, or that they would get there eventually unless the money ran dry. The devs ambitions simply far exceeded what was possible given their resources and the difficulty of the task. DAWs are very complicated pieces of software.

Yes, they have also added a lot of things they probably hadn’t factored in (like the superb context sensitive pop up browser) and have improved core features (plug in hosting, time stretching algorithms, vst3 handling) greatly, all very time consuming and often largely unnoticed by many as perhaps not as glamorous as other headline features such as th Grid.jonljacobi wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 5:25 am I never doubted Bitwig's intentions for an instant, or that they would get there eventually unless the money ran dry. When 3 is out of beta I suspect a lot of people will try Bitwig for the first time or re-try Bitwig having not used it for a while...the Grid will obviously make jaws drop, but the amount of other improvements will also impress on people that Bitwig is now a very serious and stable DAW and a unique proposition in music making. It’s more than a DAW.

Yep- it realy is.
I cant remember many things (in life let alone software!) where the actual delivered item was so much better than the hype/expectation around it!
What the opposite of buyers remorse!

Finally they pulled the stuff off they already had promised the version 1.0 buyers. Years behind and without any excuse or discount for the original sheeple.
Consider me not excited.

They didn't promise it to V1 buyers, they said it was on the roadmap and it would come later in a later paid update, which it did. They have achieved far more as a new start up than Live has achieved in 15+ years, its a monumental achievement and they have a very happy user base, in fact its only the Live users or non-users that seem to be upset for some reason!akeia wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 11:35 am Finally they pulled the stuff off they already had promised the version 1.0 buyers. If you are not excited by this you either have no interest in this type of electronic music production or you haven't actually used it....I have MAX 7, Reaktor etc etc, this is so much better....

That's a great sale, and (imo) a smart move business wise. $170 for Cubase Pro is... dirt cheap.
Cubase is rather pricey and to really "hook" more or more new people on their full feature set, people do have to be using it. Not everyone can afford to pay $500 for Cubase Pro so this sale will probably get lots more people on board and also create a few more "Jehovah's Witness" types pushing the virtues of the product as well.
The timing (for the U.S. anyway) is also good, right around the time when tax refund checks start arriving.

Why would you possibly think that you were entitled to a discount for being an original sheeple? You sound like a child.akeia wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 11:35 am Finally they pulled the stuff off they already had promised the version 1.0 buyers. Do you guys get paid (or get free update plans) to promote Bitwig? Cause it sure looks like it
It's always the same 3-5 people praising Bitwig everywhere on KVR (and especially in Ableton Live threads)
I stay away from Bitwig especially because of their pricing model, which makes it extremely expensive in the long run.
Let's do some math (sales are not counted because almost every DAW is on sale at some point) if someone wants to use Bitwig for 10 years:
Original purchase, including 1 year of free updates: $399
9 more years of updates at $169 a year: $1521
That is a whopping total of $1920.
For the same amount I can purchase Cubase Pro and update it for almost 18 years, or buy Ableton Live and update it for over 20 years (at 4 years per major version), or buy 10 copies of FL Studio and update them forever
Everyone who paid for the Bitwig v2 update when it was released has already paid $340 for v2 (2017 + 2018), which is almost the price of a new Bitwig license. And I'm not even counting 2019, which will (probably) include v3 but it could still be months before it's officially released.
So basically you're paying the same as a brand new license on every major version. That's what I call a rip-off.
Other reasons I don't like Bitwig are all kinds of annoyances like:
- Not remembering GUI settings (browser window size etc)
- Tiny non-resizable mixer faders (on a big screen this just looks hilarious)
- Not resetting controllers to their default state on exit
- Smallest track height is still way too big on large projects
- Sluggish GUI on large projects because of not using GPU
And now the Bitwig fanclub will jump all over this with comments like 'You don't have to pay for updates every year'.... Which is true, but that applies also to all other DAW's. I can keep using my Ableton Live 10 or Cubase 10 for over a decade and it also won't cost me anything anymore.
But we all know that missing out on new features is torture

"you don't have to upgrade every year" aside, do you always convert everything into money?Reefius wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 3:38 pm That is a whopping total of $1920.

Because for me it's much more important to feel inspired and actually have fun doing something.
I got Cubase Pro 10 few months ago at a very good price and barely touched it, because it's stiff, needlessly complex and incredibly cluttered. If I was professionally scoring movies or ran a recording studio, then perhaps Cubase would be my choice, but I'm not. Live 10 is much better already (for my needs), but somehow not as immediate for me as Bitwig is and way less stable, when using M4L features that I have built-in in Bitwig.
So, how hard is it to understand that people are ready to pay more for something because they prefer it over something else? And that your personal choice might be completely different, because you need/appreciate different features and/or might work with a different budget? Why do you think your critical opinion is more valid than my positive one? DAW is not a hammer that only serves one purpose and there's just one way to use it, so there's not just one objective set of criteria to judge it against...
