And frankly, Germany's thinker and poet reputation is long gone, probably since the Holocaust.
God forbid someone mention Germany without reminding everybody about Hitler and the f**king Holocaust, It's not like there aren't multiple articles about them in every f**king mainstream news outlet every week for the past 70 years.
Besides, it was the psychotic US federal Reserve created in 1913 that set it's sights on the political and financial takeover of Europe and bankrolled both sides of both world wars causing not just German but European culture in general to take a sharp turn, not the "naaazis".

One doesn't have to do with the other.
The Holocaust was decisive as much of German, and European, culture was associated with Jews. Most of those that did not die, emigrated and took that culture with them, leaving a culturally impoverished Europe behind.

lets not take the thread into WW2 and Nazi regime. Was just trying to discuss why the music companies are mostly eurpean. Note: a lot of Swedish companies not just German. I think there were some real good explanations.

Avid Pro Tools, anyone hear of it? :hihi:

Off the top of my head, all American™ companies.

I think part of it is the shear amount of start ups and regrettably better paying jobs in and around Seattle and San Jose etc. here in the states. Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, Google, Facebook, and Apple are going to take a huge slice of the good programmers that live here. Doesn't leave much for small killer audio companies to pool from. That said, the names on that list are some of the biggest in the business, so there's that.

Oh jesus? Are you one of those people that thinks if an indian and german works at Facebook, it means Facebook isn't an american business?

What are we talking about then? The title of the thread says "companies", it doesn't say developers, programmers etc. Those companies are American owned, or started, period. It's a silly thread in the first place. Nice of you to attempt to paint the American out as dense, always good to see ethnocentricity pop up.

European governments and universities strongly supported electronic music hardware and software research and development early and consistently (Pierre Schaffer from 1930s), and consider it part of their cultural heritage (Ircam and INA-GRM). Many programmers came out of those university programs, and so did the basic research for much software we still use today all around the world (AAS in Montreal). The small size and population density in europe also helped cross-fertilize ideas, and avoid the isolated pockets that you always had in north america (Detroit House, SF Tape Music Centre).

Then you don't have a point. Digidesign started in Daily City, and developed Pro Tools. They are an American company bought by Avid, another American based company.
