What are everyone's thoughts on XLN's Drum Shaper? I tend to use Kilohearts' Transient Shaper (which is fantastic) for my shaping needs, but the DS-10 plug is on sale at the moment and looks quite versatile. I like the Kick/Snare/Bus setup.

What's the price? If it's under $30, get it. It's really great actually because it's super quick to use and the visual tells you exactly what processing is happening. I would describe it as a more advanced Transient Master (NI). Go with Couture if you want to get fancy and ofcourse the Kilohearts when on sale is powerful and lean on CPU.NeonNightflyer wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 12:09 am What are everyone's thoughts on XLN's Drum Shaper? But I am blown away by Beatformer, wow.

Thanks for your input! It's $35 so I might pull the trigger. Beatformer looks interesting too!MogwaiBoy wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:24 amWhat's the price? If it's under $30, get it. Beatformer is nice 'n' all but... I can't really use it in parallel due to the crossover filters = phase distortion.. so I reach for something else. IIRC, the developers said that they may have an update with some extra options in that respect in the future.

I use transient shapers quite a bit, both on tracks and busses. Some of my favourites:
Flux Bittersweet: a really nice sounding transient tool with a lot of options. always "musical"
elysia nvelope: for more of an analogue feel and their quirky dual band mode
BOZ Transgressor 2: really nice sounding threshold transient tool that is capable of some real punch
LVC Audio Transector: very quirky transient tool with some nice character, lots of control
Newfangled Punctuate: multi-band transient tool with a lot of power and control in a unique way

It’s a very good transient shaper, especially at $20.adl wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2020 6:25 am Kilohearts transient shaper currently on sale for 20$ instead of 40$:

Sonnox Envolution is very good too.
Very tempted for Couture but maybe with Envolution, I may not get much from it.

^ Definitely worth utilising the discount. And +1 for Bitter Sweet
Take care

I don't get Beatformer, from a quick demo it sounded like it's just two one-knob filters and two one-knob compressors? Is it doing something more clever than that?

Out of interest, what plug-in format do you have this in? I got this yesterday and Waves Central has installed it as AU and VST3 but not VST2 although that format is referenced in documentation. Also the plug-in components are not located in the usual place. I find it all a bit odd!LeVzi wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 9:21 am I use Smack Attack from Waves. That's the one i've gone to and been using for a long time.

I hardly ever use transient designers, but the NI one does the job well.

For aggressive shaping I use Transgressor (2), for all other needs Sonnox Envolution, IMO the best Transient Shaper at all. With Envolution you have very precise control and the results can sound very 'natural', not like heavy processing.
