Puzzled. I just looked at mk3. If they had made clear what exactly is added, then I at least could've been interested.

I'm wondering if they've made any enhancements to FM8 or Massive to make them more friendly for creating patches using just the Maschine HW. My suspicion is that they haven't and the expectation is that you do patch creation on the computer and only mapped/exposed parameters will appear in standalone. Kind of similar to the way Novation Circuit works. I hope I'm wrong, but how would you do mod matrix assignments in Massive using just the controller?
Also noticed that the Variation button on the Maschine+ does not have page nav lettering like the mk3. With synths with lots of parameters using the 16 pads to jump to pages is critical. Hitting the next page button multiple times gets old. The way page nav is implemented on the mk3 kind of sucks though, because you have to use two hands and the shift button to activate it. Not something I want to put up with in standalone mode. Hopefully they've made improvements in this area.

My cynical smartass side (which is about 80% of my surface area; I am not a regular polyhedron) thinks this is a computer made for people who hate computers so much that they're willing to buy a computer, for the price of a computer, just so they don't have to use a computer...

Yeah it's exactly like the MPC Live really.foosnark wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2020 11:58 pm My cynical smartass side (which is about 80% of my surface area; I am not a regular polyhedron) thinks this is a computer made for people who hate computers so much that they're willing to buy a computer, for the price of a computer, just so they don't have to use a computer...
I bought Machine and the MPC Live with the desire to use a dedicated interface for drum parts etc. but neither IMO offer a truly integrated experience inside a DAW, and in the end it's just much easier to use the built in drum instrument in your DAW, and some great tagging system VST like XO.
Again though if you're mainly a drum oriented player and want something simple to bring to live shows this is a lot easier to deal with than a sound card, controller, and laptop. Personally I would have rather seen Maschine Jam get stand alone capability but...

Yeah, that's pretty much the case. But the finer nuance is that that computer is dedicated to do one thing and have less distractions and less Facebook etc. Some people have no problem with that. Some people feel a different creative freedom when working with a dedicated device, like an Elektron for example. Which is - if you think about it - also just a computer.foosnark wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2020 11:58 pm My cynical smartass side (which is about 80% of my surface area; I am not a regular polyhedron) thinks this is a computer made for people who hate computers so much that they're willing to buy a computer, for the price of a computer, just so they don't have to use a computer...

Coming from the school of 90s MPC's, when all we wanted was to be able to integrate our hardware MPC's with our cpus. I feel like this is another step backwards.
At the end of the day it's still just a controller with a sequencer and a cpu inside of it. I personally feel the Cpus we have now between laptops and desktops, there's no need for these standalone boxes, unless you truly have no need for a cpu.
I just hope developers don't kill the requests we've had for the software by going back to hardware and all of its limitations. NI has already been slow to release anything ground breaking.
They will profit alot more from the hardware, will you truly?
I've seen AKAI lose it all, then take years to get it back. Something tells me NI is on that path unfortunately. Good luck with it, but to me it doesn't look worth the price point at all.
Shout out to you airplane disc jockeys that wanted this so bad, now you can make your beats on a plane.

IMO it is more mediocre crap coming from NI, it’s sad watching a once great company tank.

The succes of the "DAW producers," last decade, did not ring a bell at NI HQ. But what is there left for them to double down on now? Scratching with two Maschines? Not going to happen, I'm afraid.
