I don't see how this is "free" if it forces you to login to an account. What a letdown. My audio machine isn't even connected to the web and that's not going to change any time soon. Why would you make a login mandatory anyway? Guess I'm going to have to miss out on this one.

Nothing is free. Even if you didn't have to log in to a website people would complain that clicking the mouse to download it used too much energy, or the download took 7 seconds too long.
If you're paranoid and think everything is a conspiracy and don't want the scary audio company to get your email address, create a fake alt email address and use that to login.
If youre too lazy to spend a couple of minutes or less to get a very cool synthesizer for 0 dollars, you're definitely not going to make good use of the synthesizer. The time it took to complain on here you practically could have already had it downloading.

I see how it's "free". It's "free" by not costing any money.fanodu1 wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 4:38 pm I don't see how this is "free" if it forces you to login to an account.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

You're paying something even if it's not money. You "pay" by having to make an account and more importantly by being forced to be connected to the internet to even access the plugin.
It's not about paranoia, even though that's a fair point - you never really know what data is being sent/received in the background. But for me it's more about independence. I want to be able to use my copy of a software years down the line, no matter if the company that made the software still exists or not.briefcasemanx wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 4:57 pm Nothing is free. This is absurd. You also have to "pay" by having an internet connection to download it and you have to "pay" by having to have a computer to install it on. Not to mention having to "pay" by having some kind of interface to play it and a DAW to use it for recording.fanodu1 wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 6:47 pmYou're paying something even if it's not money. You're "free" to not bother if it doesn't happen to match up to your enormous sense of entitlement.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Usually logins use your email, so just create one only for that purpose.

it's not an issue anyway, I'm giving my main e-mail address but later on just unsubscribing from mailing list in case I don't want to receive any notifications. gmail identifies very precisely promotions based e-mails, and put them in the dedicated tab, so usually it's not even required to unsubscribe.

This is probably something that most people should do anyway.wwjd wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 5:42 am I gave them my SPAM account (real account, just not my MAIN email) and that's a great trade off for a FANTASTIC emulation of this special, and goofy synth. Totally worth that.
Create separate account for mailing lists and such and register that. While I absolutely understand why they want to trade your email address for a free synth - databases of email lists gets stolen all the time and suddenly you are getting weird phising emails telling your Paypal account has been disabled, fantastic weight loss teas and so on.
Always a good idea to separate your main mail from mailing lists.

Yup. did this since the early free emails arrive on the internet. I tell everyone to do it. And it is not wrong. No harm, no foul, keeps life quiet.DrGonzo wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 8:04 amThis is probably something that most people should do anyway.wwjd wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 5:42 am I gave them my SPAM account (real account, just not my MAIN email) and that's a great trade off for a FANTASTIC emulation of this special, and goofy synth. Unless Cherry Audio are also an ISP, I don't see how that's related. If anything, it would be cheaper for them to hand out offline serial keys instead of having to maintain an account which takes up (negligible) space in their database.fanodu1 wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 6:47 pm You're paying something even if it's not money. The way they DO get paid for something like this:
-Being provided with email addresses so they can send promotional emails (optional, since you can unsubscribe at any time)
-People becoming aware of and loyal to the Cherry Audio brand, and perhaps purchasing something from them in the future if they like this freebie
-Exposure and increased brand awareness, such as this 4-page thread about a company people might not have heard of before, people telling their friends, posting in Facebook groups etc.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

It's free. Cost me only 30 seconds of time, which is a lot, lot less than most other online full synth purchases take. They put time/effort/research into this, then give it away. INTERNET is just normal today.
What is the alternative? They make it, then drive it over and hand it to a person inside a cardboard box?
Anyway, I have a real MG-1 and this plug sounds just like it, AND, adds more features the real one lacks.
now.... if the main OSCILLATORS could be switched into POLY....

Made only with dry DMX drum machine samples and the MG-1+
Great freebie, if you don't need strings or sequences.

In other words you don't like any form of Spam and who can blame you after several other developers abused the situation.wwjd wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 5:42 am I gave them my SPAM account (real account, just not my MAIN email) and that's a great trade off for a FANTASTIC emulation of this special, and goofy synth. A good FREE Synth needs no Spam.
Case in point: u-he TYRELL N6, a one click download. No hoops.
