Of course I'm serious. I've never been impressed by a guitar solo or a big drum break or even a synth solo. It leaves me cold. I am guided by Jaz Coleman in this. He is a former Composer-in-Residence for both the nation of New Zealand and for the European Union, yet all his best synth work in Killing Joke is basically a single held note. That impresses me way more than any solo ever could.

we all benefit from knowing how you feel about these things. meanwhile, back to discussing the actual topic of this thread...BONES wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 3:48 am Of course I'm serious. even with it's limitations, am still exploring the plugin, and having almost too-much fun with it. tomorrow, will mix in some live-played 'strings', see how that goes.
don't worry bones, will endeavor not to be too musical!

What's wrong with being musical? Again, it's you guys being unable to separate personality from things. You need to have your heroes and idols, I don't. That's all.
And the discussion here is, as I recall, about how Ujam's instruments lack that human fallibility, so it's all perfectly relevant.

"Maybe you do but I don't value musicianship and, except in a very few cases, I don't notice the performance at all." i don't need heroes or idols; and also, have no use for people who are arrogant & combative...

Then you need to understand the difference between musicianship and musicality. Musicality in a piece can exist without any musicianship being necessary or displayed.

He'd be disappointed you felt you needed the arp. That's my point - just because you're good at something doesn't mean you have to show it off all the time. You do what serves the piece, so if all it needs is 128 bars of a D, then that's all you give it.
Or, if you want to get really fancy, you might use two notes -
And just listen to the instrumental break - no need to show off, just play some sustained chords to provide some relief from the main riff. It's genius from go to woah.

Jaz is a writer, arranger and front man, I'm not sure he does much actual musician stuff. He hasn't played keyboards on stage for 40 years, that's for sure.

I like Jaz and KJ.
From https://jazcoleman.com/ "JAZ COLEMAN – the celebrated musician; composer; producer; author; etc.etc."
You sell him short implying that he's a just one-finger synth merch. Guy's a classically-trained musician which has clearly influenced everything that came later.
All good, I'll shut up now. I wish UJAM luck with this, seems a cool product.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, please !!!! Can we have Art without bodily fluids.....? Hmmm....(oh...late reply to previous posts, browser wasn't updated....)
Just to go back On Topic...I think part of the reason I wish Striiiings had a few more options for varying the patterns, and even a way to actually *play* the sounds, is just because it sounds so F-ing awesome.....!

Funny. Art without bodily fluids. I suppose, not always we can have, no.
I was just reading a post on TGP about Floyd's Animals tour, and how on one unfortunate occasion Dave had eaten something truly unsavory before the show. Throughout the course of the gig, the attendants observed how Dave Gilmour disappeared and reappeared, on and off, on and off. Snowy White handled all of guitar duties, while Dave was running backstage, polluting thereabouts with unseen amounts of fecal masses, ass flavored water and flatulence, providing a much needed sound bed for band's all-time classics.
So, I guess, even with high art such as Pink Floyd, crap will find its way eventually.

Then you can't have spent much time with it.rikki rivett wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 7:06 pmI have to admit though that I'm looking at it in the context of wanting to create an actual string part with some development, rather than as an extra/"add-on" in a Pop or HipHop track.
What are you talking about, there are more than 60 different phrases/riffs available and the ability to split the violin section from the cellos sort of doubles that. Then you can play them at half speed or double speed, which multiplies it by 3 again, to more than 360. Then, for each of these are the five different intensities, which takes the grand total to over 1800 possible patterns.I do feel the variations are really boring....just adding denser rhythms (of which there are just 5) and those -to me- very uninspired "additions" ....a bit more imagination there would not have been too hard.
If all you want to do is play sampled strings, use the Sustains. But you have to think of it like arpeggio patterns, they provide a different style of working that is really only as limited as your imagination.
No, it would be much less annoying. The string noise in that feels utterly contrived, like they went back in and put it there afterwards.SparkySpark wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 1:07 amJust listen to U2s majestic Red Hill Mining Town (link below) and remove the string noise. Ok, let's agree to disagree on that one - it really doesn't matter. What I intended to point out is that string noise is an integral part of guitar playing. Entirely leaving it out makes the patterns less realistic. It just does.BONES wrote: Wed Dec 16, 2020 1:07 pmNo, it would be much less annoying. I'd hope to see som intelligence there, like moving from Am to C wouldn't cause string noise, but perhaps from E flat to F major, and obviously not every time, but at random intervals, based on a string noise appearance possibility factor, or the SNAP factor in short

Just noticed a really fair and astute review of Striiiings, here at KVR. It also has the tip about the reversed functionality of the mod wheel. https://www.kvraudio.com/product/sympho ... views/6830
