Free Jun-6 Chorus plugin from Arturia

There's a noise on/off button on the Hornet Chorus60, but the level is very low, so hardly noticable unfortunately.

You need the ASC. That is how you authorize the plugin.
Jun-6 Chorus is not a free plugin. It is only free for right now, as a limited time special gift. They will almost certainly be selling it at some point. They wouldn't be able to do that with a plugin they gave away without any copy protection.

This. Any six year old of average intelligence would understand that. And you never see people complaining that they have to register in order to use/purchase a paid-for plugin. Yet when it's free, the sense of entitlement starts going through the roof. To quote Drumpf: "awful people"

I was excited to compare this to the TAL chorus to see if it was better but the aliasing its just to much, I hate myself for installing the Arturia Software Center just for this.

Aliasing? Whatever you're hearing probably isn't aliasing. Or Chorus Jun-6 isn't the cause of it. The signal is pretty bandlimited, which you'd expect in a BBD chorus.

Aliasing? Whatever you're hearing probably isn't aliasing. Or Chorus Jun-6 isn't the cause of it. The signal is pretty bandlimited, which you'd expect in a BBD chorus.

It's easy to understand the difference between "free" and "free with conditions" and the difference between registering for a plugin and having to install a separate App that runs as a background process when the plugin is in use.

This Chorus allows a perfect example of the two. With the Tal Chorus LX you simply download and install. With the Arturia Jun-6 Chorus you register an account, download their copy protection app, install and authorize.

One is a truly altruistic gesture the latter a gesture with ulterior motives. The motives being to get your e-mail for advertising purposes and to get their copy protection software on your system so it removes any reason for you not to buy their software in the future. "I'd buy Arturia's Jupiter plugin but I don't want to install the ASC". Well it's already installed so there goes your reason not to purchase.

Then when it comes to choosing a Chorus plugin for use in your project do you load the one that requires a running background process to function or one that doesn't? Of course the sound of the plugin will dictate which one you prefer but with all things being equal or near equal with the sound the choice is pretty obvious.

When it comes to purchasing a Jupiter emulation will you buy the Tal version that does not require any extra bloat or the Arturia version that does ? Again sound, features, functions, and workflow will dictate your decision but if all things are equal then again the decision is pretty clear.

As I said before I have the ASC installed and am grateful for Arturia's gesture of setting this Chorus plugin free for a limited time but I also understand why they are doing it. I'm ok with it, some other people may not be.

Yes I tried it, didn't work. When loaded the plugin asks you to login and then just sits spinning while I assume it's looking for the ASC program.

yeah...that's true, tried it myself. usually I don't mind these programs running/being installed but it's the first time I'm seeing that uninstalling an installer/license manager makes the plugins stop working and the DAW (Reaper) to stop responding as the plugins go into endless loop.

I'm sure that some installers behave the same way, but none of the ones I tried.

This is much better than the Tal free version. Does so much more.

Already had their manager installed from the free plate verb they gave out so it was an easy process. I think I'll use this way more than that verb.

No problem here with installation/authorization with the ASC.

Definitely a good free gift from Arturia and I will find a usage for it! The chorus also works well on mono sounds like bass.

I tried this here with Mode I (bypassed the first bars).

I did some tests on Windows 10.

Loading the Chorus plugin and recent giveaways (such as REV PLATE) trigger the same behavior. They run ArturiaSoftwareCenterAgent.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Arturia\Arturia Software Center, which connects via internet to arturia.com. I didn't bother looking at the packets to see what it was sending.

Disabling ArturiaSoftwareCenterAgent.exe renders the plugins unauthorized. Blocking ArturiaSoftwareCenterAgent.exe from accessing the internet does not seem to have adverse affects for now (other than keeping ASC offline as well). It's possible the activation is good for a certain amount of time and will expire. I'm going to leave it blocked and see if this is the case.

In any event, ArturiaSoftwareCenterAgent.exe stays in memory perpetually. Removing a plugin or closing the DAW makes no difference. You need to kill the process manually.
