Nah, I think it's more of a case of people not being that bothered by aliasing

Yes, it's safe to say that if Decapitator causes aliasing then people are cool with aliasing (not all of a sudden though). I don't have it so I can't say. I do have to SPL Iron, which people say aliases terribly, in that case I'm cool with aliasing too.

I wish I had plugins like Decapitator and Echoboy, but I think I can do what they do just fine. Fabfilter on the other hand I would really love to own. Everything is just so full featured and elegant. I stay away though, as price just ain't worth it for me.

Get all the Tobeboosters plugins (imo much better than the respective FabFilters offers) + the rack version of Soundtoys (preferably when on sale): you get more (and better) for less money!

I would seriously suggest trying out the Schoeps Omni Channel from Waves. It's a really good channel strip for mixing, great EQ, compression and also saturation, and can be picked up really cheap. I've been using this on a project where I can't use UAD or Soundtoys and it's really good.

There are also some saturation plugs from plugin alliance that can be picked up cheap like their black box.

For general creative FX, don't overlook native instruments, d16, eventide. There are a bunch of good choices out there.

Anyway, don't feel like you need to jump for two large bundles straight away.

With that you may not need proEQ or Decapitator, or at least you'd feel like you had more time to demo things.
