Easy to get into for simple things with a ton of depth that's also pretty easy to go deep and can save a bit of cash due to the great internal effects, synths, and modulation sources.
Ableton is better
Not really.
I mean, sure it has SOME features that make it better like a key scale folding option and a couple other things, but the overall is that bitwig is priced WAAAAAY better and has more tools for the same price as Standard Live
You either have to buy Live Suite to get all the other bits or buy them all individually which costs more in the long run.

Oh I forgot to mention you can have more than 1 synth on the same track. So for things like Cthulhu which is seen as a synth, you can add this and the synth you want to control on the same track and have the notes turn to chords through the signal path.
Though it wont record the chords and have to still use a separate channel for that as far as I know.

Also there's WASAPI support which pretty much eliminates the need for a dedicated audio interface.
wha-da-hell yo talkin' bout mate?

i recommend audacity. can handle loops in an easy manner, has a multitrackview and costs nothing but the energy for the download. ^^

Assuming you mean his 2nd paragraph (because the 1st one about the cost is disputable at best) he means that in Bitwig you can have whatever order of devices on tracks and you can usually have one track where Live requires two; plus MIDI flows through the track (doesn't get converted into audio by instrument), which is another benefit.

So, for example in Live if you want to use Cthulhu to generate MIDI apreggio for Sylenth, you need to put Sylenth on another track, that'll listen to Cthulhu's MIDI output. Then if you'd want to use the same MIDI input processed by a different instance of Cthulhu to decide the effects applied by StutterEdit to Sylent's output, then that's 2 more tracks. 4 tracks in total.

In Bitwig, you just put all of it on a single track: Cthulhu(1) -> Sylenth -> Cthulhu(2) -> StutterEdit.

Obviously, that's not something that a beginner from OP's post should bother themselves with

No mention of Serato Studio?

What ever happened to ACID?
Intel Core2 Quad CPU + 4 GIG RAM

Post

How about Live Lite? It's often given away with midi keyboards & audio interfaces, and can be picked up in the Buy/Sell forum for as little as $5.

Post

Yeah, LIVE LITE and/or BITWIG 8 TRACK in the KVR used marketplace.

TLDR - consider Mixcraft (cheap, very easy to learn, includes clip launcher) and Cakewalk (free, includes Matrix view). Both also have pitch markers so loops can be transposed in realtime.

Post

FL Studio. Its purely loop based and can do following things like slice, stretch, transpose ect. Also it has free updates for life unlike other DAWs. If you buy version 20, versions 21 ect will be frre. And it's updated quite frequently with added new features and improvements.

Sony's Acid is a no-brainer for OP

Post

I can't vouch for it, I have only just discovered it, but it's free and works like FL Studio with regards loops and applying them to a song editor.

I can't find a use for a half speed backwards drumloop.

I thought the community is already past frowning upon using loops, samples, presets, generative devices, etc.?
You're kidding?
