I like Labs, but I do think that it's easy to stop looking for other libraries once you've found the Labs stuff. Like you, I also discovered Pianobook a while back (to be fair, it's run by the same people as Labs, so I probably heard it from there) and I agree that there are some amazing samples there.GaryG wrote: Sat Jul 23, 2022 8:49 am I gave up on the LABS a year or so back after constant 'repair' issues, I saw on another forum someone mention Pianobook and Decent Sampler as an alternative. I jumped ship, haven't looked back etc. Just works with some amazing sample sets, fills my off the wall acoustic cravings.
I am done with Spitfire Audio’s Labs.

While I agree that LABS had a poor start, I have not not many issues of late. Occasional relocation of a library required, but not often.
I actually gave up on LABS but one of the guys at Spitfire TeamViewed into my PC and fixed it. It still had issues after that, but in the last two-three years I have had few issues.
It's a shame that many of the early adopters will now avoid this, I think it's a great idea (although I still hate the GUI).

Good point. After all the hassle I had with it I'm loathe to try again, despite having liked as lot of the patches.Mr Arkadin wrote: Wed Aug 03, 2022 3:46 pm

Maybe one more go.....

After seeing this, I registered and was going to try it this weekend
After reading this thread, not sure I will try it. Shame, sounded good enough for my requirements

I'd still give it a go - seems to be hit and miss. A lot of people are obviously having no problems at all, whereas others..._morton_ wrote: Wed Aug 03, 2022 5:19 pm After seeing this, I registered and was going to try it this weekend

Well BBCSO isn't LABS, so will probably get more love from Spitfire. Anyway, I updated from Discover to Core for something like £130 and have now just upgraded to Pro for £231, which included Earth eDNA, so I've ended up with a bit of a bargain._morton_ wrote: Wed Aug 03, 2022 5:19 pm After reading this thread, not sure I will try it. I downloaded it all, looked at the size of the files and deleted immediately.
It's probably nice, but after reading a few of the comments here I won't ever bother again. To be honest if vst's didn't exist, most of us would have just one sound module and it would be enough.

The key problem with LABS and the Spitfire Audio installer is when you try to have multiple installations on different computers, it appears to keep track of your system split between local and remote, so if you have 2 machines they must have the same items installed, and in the same location, or things are prone to breaking from one machine not matching the installation that the remote part of their information is aware of.
This essentially rules out having it on PC and Mac simultaneously, because the library paths can never be the same.

I did have it installed on both laptop and desktop, so that might have been the issue. Since I'm only bothering with recording geetar and sruff on the desktop now, I'll give it a go again.
Cheers.

This thread shows the importance of offering sampled instruments in multiple formats instead of just one. From my experience, there are no formats that just work anywhere for everyone. For many years, I even had trouble with Kontakt with a computer I had at the time, that's why it took me so long to offer Kontakt instruments with nice scripted UIs.
If you're into the LABs sounds, I think your best bet is Pianobook with Decent Sampler (as already suggested). I even added some of my "Renaissance" instruments to the website: https://www.pianobook.co.uk/profile/samplescience/
