Valhalla users - which do you use more Vintage or Room?

I own almost all of them, yet mostly use Plate now, especially on drums and synth anything. It's amazingly versatile and I think it sounds wonderful. I do prefer Room on acoustic samples for greater realism, like orchestral, and then use Shimmer for long ambient washes. So, while VVV is excellent, for whatever reason I rarely use it anymore.

It's a good one. Sounds terrific on spacey synths.

For my own usage, I use:

1. VintageVerb (all the time - every project has one or more)
2. SuperMassive (incredible for Blackhole style stuff)
3. Plate (I use it more on guitars/vocals, "rock" or "folky" stuff)
4. Room (Just don't use this a lot but should use it more - I'll usually open VSR-S24, Exponential, SP-2016, some kind of IR [e.g. Sunset Studios] if I'm looking for real sounding rooms)

Neither, but simply because 1) I have other Valhalla plugins and 2) have some other "normal" reverbs, primarily some from Exponential Audio and the stock Logic ones.

I use the **** out of both Valhalla Supermassive and Valhalla Delay though. Supermassive really shouldn't be free but I'm not complaining. I got Delay almost out of guilt for using Supermassive and instantly took to it. I have Replika (not xt just yet) but I find Valhalla much easier to use (not a fan of small hard-to-use-with-a-mouse knobs that are trying to look like hardware for no good reason....)

I'm considering getting a plate and Valhalla is high in the running.

Valhalla Plate is an EMT-140 emulation (though it goes beyond, of course).

I think people sometimes trap themselves with notions that certain verbs are only good for certain tasks (and Plates too often get the "vocals and snares!" trope thrown at them; not saying it's wrong, just that it's...limiting).

The truth is a Plate can sound good anywhere and everywhere. And if Pink Floyd can exclusively use a Plate reverb to record an album like Dark Side (including vocals, drums, guitars, organs, synths, samples...you name it!), well......

I have plate and the UAD EMT 140. With some tweaking and some post verb EQ Valhalla can get quite close to the UAD.

The UAD though gets results much quicker, it just sounds great. It's just the one plate, three slightly different versions.

Valhalla has quite a lot of plate types, and not all are necessary to me. It might be better with fewer, and less esoterically named flavours: cobalt, iron, bronze etc. You almost need the web page open when trying to dial in a sound.

I don't mind spending some time playing with a good verb though. Could be more immediate though, in my opinion.

That 4s decay hall sounds really nice! Definitely a great starting point. And yes why change it if it works.

I think Room can do some great things to drums, and especially snares for some room 'crack'.

Delay is a very nice sounding delay, the default patch is also great. The feedback can get a bit grating if left tonring out, but a very capable and lush delay sound.

Supermassive is also really spectacular. Some amazing delays and ambiances for sure. While I think Valhalla plug ins are really good, for me supermassive is the one that supplies something unique and really special. I liked it so much for free, that I supported Valhalla by buying the remaining fx ok didn't have.

I use room more than anything algorithmic that I have. My main setup for scoring uses 2 instances of Altiverb (mostly for Early reflections), one Vroom with a big room preset (for pushing stuff back in the mix), then one VVV running in to a compressor and eq for special FX and synths. All the Altiverbs and Vroom are active on every channel, but VVV is only there for "obvious" reverb.

I could get by with only Vroom or Altiverb if I needed to, but I don't think I could say the same about VVV unless maybe I was only making pop or dance music.

Oh, ok. For some reason I thought it didn't have the full descriptions.

My main point was that there were too many choices, some of which are represented by a fairly abstract plate type name. i.e. there are plates with varying degrees of.darkness, where maybe it could have a darkness control instead. * though a post reverb eq on a send also does the trick

I never use VRoom any more. Sounds nice on it's own, especially crazy long spacey verbs, but always felt it was hard to mix. I tend to use the NI Classics more than anything for rooms/halls, but also so many instruments have their own reverb built in now, often use those. VDelay and Supermassive get used though for everything between delay and ambient reverb.

I have them all but use Vintage Verb 99.9% of the time. It's my desert island reverb. Don't be confused by the 'vintage' in the title, it can sound crisp and modern too. There are so many great algorithms included and they all sound very different, there's always something that fits. It can do convincing real spaces, rooms, plates, echo chambers and digital craziness. Can't praise it highly enough. I try Room and Plate a few times every year but always come back to VVV.

Haven't tried Room. I use Plate the most. I almost always end up swapping VVV out for something else.

I wish there was the option for separate wet / dry outputs rather than mix (or the option to swap controls to separate wet/dry).

Now that i've had more time to use VVV , I find its better than Room on leads, and room goes more on other things, and especially low end rumbles. Both really nice verbs tbh.
