I've just bought Vegas. I'm not sure what the implications will be for Vegas if Sony have sold ACID to Apple.

If they sold off their "SonicFoundry assets" that would include Vegas and Sound Forge.

Huh???? In what format are those "included" Oxford plugs?

They have included "Sonic Stage Mastering Studio" with all new VAIOs.

It consists of:

Sony Oxford EQ
Renaissance Bass
Waves S1 Stereo Imager
L1 Ultramaximiser

... packaged into an interface aimed at ordinary Windows users who want decent tools for converting their old LPs into CD etc.

The point is, Sony is committed to music and isn't about to give up the battle and let Apple walk all over them.

I would imagine this particular version of the Oxford EQ is a DX propriety version,like the kind not availble to Sony Vegas users or Sound Forge or Acid.Interesting.

I'm ready to take bets on this... I doubt that the Sofo tech support would mention Acid 5 if it was being sold to Apple. Also the effort to rewrite such application on the mac doesn't make any sense as Angus mentionned. I think this is all a mistake and confusion about the guy who created ACID (Chris M.)and who is working for Apple now.

There is probably a ProBand announcement comming but it wouldn't make any sense that it would be a ported ACID to the mac.

Well I think they need to get ACID working tip top on PC before they try porting it.

It took them so long to introduce any form of midi that those lazy boys 'n girls at SoFo/Sony would need 50 Xmas's to port a mac version.

I think this has been dreamt up by some macheads with delusions of grandure that their 2% of the computer market actually represents any form of competition to Sony (meiow!)

I love the whole iPod/iTunes is taking over the world fantasy. It's like a mirror of Sony and Betamax.

Maybe Jo from Muzys is working for Sony now and they're getting rid of Acid but keeping Vegas and SoundForge. Meanwhile Apple's ProBand is basically just Acid for the Mac with AU support.

Sony has to hold onto Vegas...With their new high density DVD writers and their huge share of the video related market they intend to be in control of the future of formats...as they'd have lots of trouble if the motion picture association went off in some other direction...

I heard they were keeping jo prisoner in a secret location in Chiba, Japan. Apple and sony had joined up to create the ultimate sequencer, but when they saw that Muzys was better than their efforts, they tried to get jo to come on board. He refused, and with the help of former Emagic CEO, Gerhard, they kidnapped him and tried to force him to code for them.
Apparently, JMC and Gol had tried to get jo out, but didn't have much luck. No one would take them seriously because of the words fruit and loops in their product line.

I don't know how much of this is just rumour and how much is common knowlege, so don't quote me on it yet.
