This has led to talented analog designers like Juergen Haible removing some circuit diagrams from their sites to stop them being "doepferised".

Their continued use of low quality components (unsealed carbon pots etc) doesn't exactly inspire confidence either.
No problems with the pots here after some years of use.

I didn't know about their "doepferizing" practice though. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. :(

Anyways, what you have to be aware of when you buy a Doepfer, is that it has a very specific and recognizable basic sound! :!:

You are talking about the Hartmann Neuron here. :D

Image

It is nearly £40 above your price limit though...
that looks pretty damn cool 8) , definately gonna have to try one of them out.

cheers,

steve.
With kind regards from the owner of a Waldorf Wave, some Moogs and a large Doepfer system.

Also, if you are into real analog synths and want it all, including the possibility to store sounds, then don't forget to consider the Alesis A6 Andromeda!
it's really apples and oranges...

Neuron is a resynthesis digital thing...and you're talking about pure analog...

I'm surpriced no-one has mentioned ARP 2600 yet. Should satisfy your needs for variety of sounds and "something special". Another good choise might be System 700, but I've no idea how much it actually costs...

Hää, Apfelmus und Orangensaft? Kartoffelpüree? Read before you write! :P

This is not about analog or digital, it's about suggesting high class hardware synths that have something special to them. Dreammachines, so to say. :)

And in case you haven't noticed, it's me the same person who suggested both the Neuron and the Andromeda.
Did Waldorf still exist, then I would have suggested the Wave as well. Now this one has digital tone generation and analog filters: The apple and orange synth!

However, all three of them are well suited for the style of music that Blaster78 says he makes ("ambient style wibbliness"):
  • • Neuron par nature for its evolving textures.
    • Andromeda for its warm basic sound, not too fast but complex envelopes and 16 analog voices polyphony.
    • The Wave for its modulation eldorado and the typical sounds of its synthesis engine again, like deep and organic pads.
I would not have suggested a Doepfer though - although I own one myself. If you are mostly used to work with programmable synths, then working with a real modular can be quite disappointing, despite the fascination of the massive hardware. That's why I came up with the Andromeda after all.
